“To future mentees considering the program, I encourage you to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Value every moment with your mentor […] and embrace the process with openness and honesty. By doing so, you can gain invaluable insights, grow, and become a better version of yourself.” Ina De Vos, a longtime employee at KPMG South Africa who lives with asthma and coronary artery disease, shared her experiences with disability inclusion and mentorship through the Generation Valuable programme. Ina was paired with mentor from KPMG Philippines who helped her set ambitious goals and develop new skills. The programme empowered her to champion disability inclusion transforming her career and her perspective on inclusive leadership. Today, Ina is a more confident and innovative leader, actively supporting KPMG’s Disability Support Network and leading initiatives to promote disability disclosure and inclusion. If you're considering Generation Valuable, take Ina’s advice: Embrace every moment with openness and honesty. This is your chance to grow, expand your network, and make a real impact on disability inclusion. • "Vulnerability is often seen as a weakness, especially among men. Yet, being vulnerable is a powerful sign of strength and courage that builds trust and improves performance. Choosing vulnerability requires self-awareness to understand how honesty can serve others and fit the moment. A mentoring relationship is the ideal space to share openly and safely — it's what makes mentorship extraordinary! Be honest about your ambition; we often hold back our hopes out of fear of seeming foolish, but articulating goals clarifies the path forward. Share your struggles too; many challenges are universal, even if rarely discussed. Vulnerability fosters a deeper connection with your mentor. Finally, do the difficult thing: live by your values. Speak up for what you believe, especially in challenging moments. Advocate for others, share diverse perspectives, and create space for others to do the same." The last edition of Connect, our monthly mentoring and development newsletter featured this tip by Ollie Thorn, inspirational speaker and advisor on navigating change, resilience and culture, on how to be vulnerable in a mentoring relationship. I am very pleased to be part, for the second year of the Moving Ahead Mission Gender Equity mentorship journey, the cross-company program that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion in partnership with the 30% Club UK. The goal of this initiative is to increase the representation of talented women in the business community, a goal that I support with mentorship activities both inside and outside my company. In fact, the value of sharing and giving back is for me central as an opportunity for cultural growth, professionally and personally, even more so if it is oriented toward inclusiveness and valuing differences. I always like to remember how being a father of two young girls is for me a constant opportunity to learn and discovery while I am sharing my reflections and experiences. With my commitment to DE&I, I trust that I can support Giulia and Sofia on their development journey to see them become future leaders, in all the different dimensions of their life. #MissionGenderEquity #MovingAhead #30PercentClub #Mentorship #WomenLeadership #DEI

Founder and CEO of Moving Ahead. Mentoring specialist advancing workplace DE&I. 30% Club ambassador.

This week, I had the privilege of standing on the same stage at Google where, ten years ago, I shared the vision for what was then Women Ahead. Back then, I was in my mid-thirties, freshly out of 16 years in a corporate career, fire (and nerves!) in my belly, pitching an idea for a sport and business mentoring programme that was still really just a dream. That day, incredible leaders like Victoria Pendleton, Baroness Helena Morrissey, and even the Home Secretary at the time, Theresa May, trusted me enough to say "yes"—a moment that set everything in motion.  Fast forward a decade, and we gathered once more, this time to celebrate the journey of Moving Ahead—a story of belief, vulnerability, and the unwavering commitments of mentors, mentees, partners, and an extraordinary team. A heartfelt thank you to Kirk Vallis, Dr. Asif Sadiq MBE, Holiday Phillips and Helena Morrissey for being such a special part of this event and sharing such honest and gritty perspectives on the future of the DE&I space. To have you there, along with my incredible team, friends and colleagues was magical for me. And thank you to the LONDON COMMUNITY GOSPEL CHOIR for bringing the party, as always! As I said on the night, Moving Ahead and I would not be where we are today if it weren't for a very special person, who left the comfort of a big corporate career trajectory and took the leap of faith to join me. Thank you, Rebecca Davies. This milestone is also a huge celebration of you and all you’ve done to drive our impact and growth. Huge thanks to Kirk and Google for hosting us. This event was a truly wonderful full circle moment that I will treasure for many years to come. The team and I are ever-more determined and passionate to continue to drive meaningful change so that all talent can thrive.

Only 1.5% of senior roles are filled by Black people in the UK How many of us will have the opportunity to be in rooms and network with CMO, CFO, VP Not many… Santander UK has put forward a fantastic initiative, that holds space for Black people to be seen. More businesses need Black Talent Programmes Let's recap this week BTP launch event 🎉 First Impressions: Welcomed into Santander UK stunning head office and escorted by our amazing host Ben Hazell Highlights: → Inspiring panel chat with previous cohorts sharing their growth journeys within Santander and how the BTP has contributed to their success Michelle M. Olufolake Ojo Jeffrey Krampah-Williams → Valuable networking opportunities with different department representatives → Engaging conversation with Juan Ignacio Echeverria about Santander's future vision for the programme → Insightful session led by Tamu T. on programme expectations and how to get the best out of the BTP 🌟 Personal Highlight: Thrilled to be paired with Franz McCoy as my sponsor And that’s a wrap! It was truly an enriching day filled with making connections, learning and inspiration. But most importantly, I felt seen. A feeling I can’t even begin to articulate. PS: Second post, look who’s sticking to her word x
