About us
The Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit (MRC CTU) at UCL is at the forefront of resolving internationally important questions in infectious diseases, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, and delivering swifter and more effective translation of scientific research into patient benefits. We do this by designing and conducting innovative clinical trials, and developing methodological advances in study design, conduct and analysis. We also carry out observational studies to evaluate the impact of new interventions in routine care. Our research helps to improve healthcare in the UK and around the world. Smarter studies. Global impact. Better health.

With #WorldAIDSDay2024 around the corner, Sheena McCormack shares how the LGBTQ+ community have contributed to #HIV research over the years - including our PROUD trial. PROUD was the first UK study of PrEP to prevent HIV. The results helped change attitudes towards PrEP, as clinicians and communities started to believe that it could change the direction of the epidemic and help #EndAIDS.
