🎁 Multus celebrates 4 years! Our journey so far ⬇️ 🟦 In 2020, Multus was created to make media that scales. 👥 Kevin Pan, Réka Trón and Cai Linton started Multus because they saw the need for a more sustainable food system and the potential of cultivated meat to help make that vision a reality. 🌎 They also saw the potential for engineering biology to overcome the core challenges in this emerging sector - which are: 🔒 Existing media formulations are too expensive as an input to food production. 🔒 Developing new media formulations is slow and expensive. 🔒 Inefficient approaches to media optimisation. 🔒 The limited availability of suitable ingredients. ⚠️ These problems put cultivated meat companies at risk of stalling at lab scale. 🟦 Today, Multus provides solutions that address all of these core challenges: 🔑 Our technology platform screens thousands of formulations in parallel to make media development cheaper and faster. 🔑 We use machine learning tools to handle complex optimisation. 🔑 We develop novel ingredients that can reduce food waste while making cultivated meat affordable. 🎂 As we celebrate 4 years into our journey, we are encouraged to see how far the industry has come globally as it strives to make a more sustainable food system. 📖 Read about our most recent company milestone: https://lnkd.in/erZAXKhx #AlternativeProtein #CultivatedMeat #CellularAgriculture #SustainableFoodSystems

✳️ Cultivated meat has a part to play in diversifying the food system - but to do this, it needs large scale and low prices. Our takeaways from #ISCCM10 ⬇️ The stakes are clear: 🌍 By 2050, we will need to feed ~10 billion people, requiring a 56% increase in food production. 🌏 The agricultural system is also unsustainable, contributing to 26% of greenhouse gas emissions, relying on vast amounts of natural resources and causing biodiversity loss. 🌿 This system needs to be transformed to ensure that global food demand can be met in a sustainable and affordable manner. 🟩 The 2024 edition of The International Scientific Conference on Cultured Meat (ISCCM) showed that progress is being made in the cultivated meat sector to advance these goals. ⚡ Presentations from leading scientists in the sector showed that the building blocks of scale and affordability needed to accelerate cultivated meat from lab to market are being assembled. 🧑🔬 From cells and scaffolds to measuring aroma, the innovators in the community displayed an inspiring level of determination and optimism. 🟢 At the event, Multus shared how our AI-driven approach makes animal-free media that scales. ✅ Multus uses machine learning to optimise media formulation, making media development faster and cheaper. ⏩ Click here to learn more about our efforts to advance a more sustainable food system: https://lnkd.in/dzjWCMj6 Thanks to the ISCCM for organising such an inspiring event. We'll be back next year with more to share about how we're making media development cheaper and faster. And that's it for Day 1, following our final panel discussion of the day: The 'Alternative Protein Powerhouses: EU vs US Strategies' at the Future of Protein Production Amsterdam 2024 was a great exploration into how these two regions are tackling the challenges and opportunities in the alternative protein sector. Moderated by Jeroen Willemsen from Foodvalley NL, the panel focused on scaling strategies, fundraising, and government support, with a particular emphasis on the differences between Europe and the USA. Cai Linton from Multus discussed the company's focus on growth media formulations for cultivated meat, and how their CapEx-light approach has enabled them to scale more affordably. Cai emphasized the importance of creative financing and early partnerships in getting started and scaling up in the cultivated meat industry. Cedric Verstraeten from revyve shared insights into how his company, a spin-off from AB InBev, has navigated its scale-up journey with innovative circular economy solutions in food production, particularly with a focus on sustainability and operational efficiency. Jasper Snoek from Fair Capital Impact Fund provided an investor's perspective, highlighting how blended financing models—public, private, and debt—can help companies scale in a capital-intensive environment. He stressed the need for building strong coalitions that transcend political divisions to drive real progress in alternative proteins. The discussion underscored that while the USA benefits from more available capital and faster regulatory processes, Europe’s more established food industry and strong focus on sustainability and consumer trust give it a competitive edge. Collaboration, both within regions and across the Atlantic, was a key theme for accelerating the alternative protein revolution. #FutureOfProtein #AlternativeProteins #ScalingChallenges #FoodInnovation #CapExLight #EUvsUS #RAI #FPPAmsterdam
