Mummy's Star is the only charity in the UK and Ireland providing support to mums and birthing parents affected by #cancer in or around their #pregnancy. We offer one-to-one emotional support, practical advice, advocacy and small grants to families where the: • Woman/birthing parent is diagnosed or treated for cancer in pregnancy. • Woman/birthing parent is diagnosed or treated for cancer within a year of giving birth. • Family who, in the year following a birth, lose their female/birthing partner as a result of cancer. We also facilitate peer support via private online forums and collaborate with a number of other cancer charities and support services to meet our families' unique needs. We also provide the only bespoke training on Cancer and Pregnancy for midwives, healthcare professionals and trainees. Sessions can be in-person or virtual and include academic and anecdotal content to bring to life the realities of a pregnancy, birth, and post-natal period impacted by a cancer diagnosis. We want all healthcare professionals to receive this training to better understand and are for mums and parents who go through this frightening and confusing experience. Find out more at our website.

💙Cervical screening can help to ensure cervical cancer is diagnosed early and potentially improve treatment options and prognosis. ⭐We encourage mums and birthing parents to continue attending screenings during (when safe) and after pregnancy to reduce the risk of cervical cancer symptoms being masked by pregnancy and post-natal changes. #cervicalcancer #cervicalcancerpreventionweek #cancerandpregnancy
From our CEO and Founder Pete Wallroth: "We at Mummy's Star have had such an incredible year as BCLP Charity of the Year throughout 2024 and it’s beyond our imagination that they managed to raise such an amount (£48,000!) for us in that time. This is helping us provide so much more support to women and birthing people diagnosed with cancer in and around pregnancy, including an additional member of the team over the last year in expanding much of our education work. A massive thank you Siobhan La Roche - Seeley and Alison Klarfeld for steering this whole year in such a brilliantly engaging way. The biggest thank you to Laura Brooks for nominating us in late 2023 and pushing knowledge of our charity forward to all her colleagues. It’s been a pleasure working with you all!" #cancerandpregnancy #charityoftheyear
double celebrations today for my two year anniversary working for BCLP (which I love 🙌🏻) & confirmation of raising an incredible £48,000 for Mummy's Star as BCLP Charity of the Year for 2024! A massive thank you to all my BCLP colleagues for their fundraising efforts (and their friends and family for the donations!) what a year! Thanks Pete Wallroth for a wonderful lunch and for all the incredible work you and your team do ❤️
💙Physical touch, intimacy, and sex can be hugely impacted by a #cancer diagnosis and treatment. Mum or the birthing parent may find it difficult to touch or be touched due to physical or emotional changes triggered by treatment or ill health. 💙A partner may be unsure what is safe or possible while their loved one is unwell. Both may experience a lack of libido due to stress and worry. Side effects from treatment, coupled with the care of young children, will also affect time and energy levels. 🫶If you are concerned a patient may be experiencing difficulties in their relationship, or with physical intimacy, you might choose to refer them to relationship counselling or sex therapy, or a cancer specific counselling and support service. 📽️We have an excellent Ask The Expert session by Liz O'Riordan that also useful insights into this dynamic: http://ow.ly/S9ew50KaEyM #cancer #cancerandpregnancy #sex #sexandintimacy #NHS

⭐ Fantastic feedback from our first in person Cancer and Pregnancy training session of 2025! 🔈 "Amazing session. Extremely informative and understandable in a non medicalised way. No jargon. Also, it is beneficial to visualising the holistic approach to cancer in pregnancy. Lots of knowledge learned and will, be needed in practice for the future." ➡️ Book a session today: https://lnkd.in/e5sqepHN
