🌟 Nominated for the Current Archaeology Rescue Project of the Year 2025 🌟 Our Roman wooden finds from Holborn Viaduct included the discovery of an incredibly rare Roman funerary bed, incredibly well preserved in the damp mud of the River Fleet. This bed may have been intended as a grave good for use in the afterlife. Tombstones from across the Roman Empire show carvings of the deceased reclining on a couch or bed and eating as if they were alive. 🌟 Nominated for the Current Archaeology Research Project of the Year 2025 🌟 The Offord Cluny burial was discovered during MOLAHeadland excavations on the National Highways A14 project. This led to collaborative research with the Francis Crick Institute and Durham University. aDNA and isotope analysis revealed that the young man buried near the village of Offord Cluny in Cambridgeshire had ancestors who lived in the traditional lands of the Sarmatians. In his short life, this young man had travelled thousands of miles across the Roman Empire to Britain.
