After 25 brilliant years of celebrating entrepreneurial excellence in Wales through the Wales Fast Growth 50, I am so proud of my partner, Professor Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, for evolving this incredible programme into a national celebration and community; The UK Fast Growth Index! Tonight, we’re heading to the Bloomsbury Big Top to champion some of the UK’s fastest-growing businesses across seven nations and regions. This programme is about so much more than just recognising growth, it’s about shining a spotlight on the local heroes driving innovation, creating jobs, and inspiring the next wave of ambition. What is the UK Fast Growth Index? The Index celebrates the 50 fastest-growing firms in seven UK regions and nations, recognising businesses across industries that are achieving extraordinary growth. It provides an opportunity to highlight regional champions and showcase the businesses that are making a tremendous contribution to the UK economy. The impact of last year’s featured firms speaks volumes (this years will be published next week after tonights celebrations): The 350 fast growing firms featured on the 2023 Index had a combined turnover of £12 billion and had grown by £7.5 billion between 2020 and 2022, a growth rate of 167%. Over 52,000 people were employed across all the companies involved in the 2023 Index and the 350 firms created over 23,000 new jobs in just two years. Out of the 350 businesses featured, 92 companies achieved a turnover exceeding £20 million. Among the UK Fast Growth Index companies, the diversity in sectors is vast from construction to digital to professional services indicating that rapid growth is possible across industries. The UK Fast Growth index creates local heroes throughout the UK with many family businesses featuring prominently in all sectors. Fast-growth firms may make up less than 1% of the business population, but they contribute 50% of SME turnover and play a vital role as innovators, job creators, and drivers of economic success. I can’t wait to celebrate the achievements of this year’s incredible businesses tonight and recognise their outstanding contributions to the UK economy.
