Name Architects completes understated retrofit of Hackney terrace house. The refurbishment of a two-storey Victorian house in London Fields, including a kitchen extension, employs a warm, simple palette of materials. The brief for the house, which was designed for a young family, was to create a ‘warm, clean and calm home’, providing an 'unpretentious yet refined' series of spaces... Works have commenced on site for a full refurbishment as well as ground, first and second floor extensions to a mid-terrace home in Stoke Newington. A host of issues discovered during the design and exploration stages meant that works have ended being more structurally rigorous than initially planned and a lot of the design decisions have been dictated by the site conditions. In this project more than most form follows function and a structural reason is present behind every design move or material.
