Very happy to share my conversation on the #SurgibotsPodcast hosted by the brilliant Henry Norton! I had the pleasure of sitting down with him to discuss Nami Surgical and the episode is titled "Pimp My Robot: How Ultrasonics Will Get Better Outcomes." A huge thanks to Henry for creating such an impactful concept to explore innovation in robotics. Catch the full episode to hear more on the tech challenges we’ve tackled, our commercialisation journey, and how we're teaming up with partners to push the boundaries of what's possible in robotic surgery.
Surgibots Podcast with Nico Fenu, CEO and Co-Founder of Nami Surgical now live! This episode is called "Pimp my Robot. How ultrasonics will get better outcomes" Ultrasonics has long been valued for its precision in surgery, but integrating it into robotic platforms poses a unique set of challenges. Traditional ultrasonic devices are typically large, rigid, and depend on specific dimensions to achieve the necessary frequencies for safe, effective tissue cutting. Miniaturising these tools without sacrificing performance required engineering solutions to maintain power, control vibration, and reduce heat—essential for protecting surrounding tissues in delicate surgeries. On top of this, robotic surgeries demand flexibility, with tools that can move at complex angles. By redesigning ultrasonic instruments to allow "wristed" movement, Nico and his team at Nami Surgical have made it possible to bring the benefits of ultrasonics—minimal trauma, reduced blood loss, and precision—into a wider range of robotic-assisted procedures. Catch the full episode to hear Nico’s thoughts on navigating the challenges of tech commercialisation, and the partnerships they’re forming to bring ultrasonics to robotic surgery.
