Helen Stewart’s family have been tenants at Knockbarry Farm near Pitlochry for over 400 years 🌱 When their business was put at risk because of agricultural damage caused by too many deer on the land, Helen wanted to make sure that any deer culled could benefit local food banks and communities 🍽️🦌 Through our Cairngorms 2030 programme, we worked with Helen to find innovative solutions to address the damage to her farm and fragile habitats caused by the overpopulation of deer. Knockbarry farm was awarded a grant to build a larder for the butchery of deer culled in and around the National Park. Regular donations of wild venison will go to local food banks through Fair Feast with more than 600 packs of venison sausages, meatballs and mince already delivered 🥩 As well as providing training opportunities and rural jobs, this project creates a local supply of venison for those who need it most. The Cairngorms National Park Authority, land managers and farmers are working together to deliver #Cairngorms2030. This is made possible by The National Heritage Lottery Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players 💜 📹 Wunnar Film #HeritageFund #Scotland #NationalLottery

  • Stunning images from the South Downs National Park Authority Astrophotography Competition 🌟

A huge congratulations to the winners, runner-ups and those highly-commended in the 2025 South Downs Astrophotography Competition. Taking first place in the "Life at Night" category was Giles Embleton-Smith with "Chanctonbury Coven", an eerie image of the lichen-encrusted trees at the famous site that once was used as a Roman Temple and is reputedly one of the most haunted sites in England. Giles also took the top spot in the "Magnificent Moon" category with "Petworth Moon", showing the moon rising above Petworth Deer Park. In the "Dark Skyscapes" category, the winning entry was "To Infinity and Beyond" by Jamie Fielding, capturing a spectacular night vista in the Cuckmere Valley. Finally, the winner of the "Mobile" category was Emily Birtwisle with "Stellar Seaside Stargazing", taken at Seven Sisters Country Park and showing the moon and Venus, as seen from the beach at Cuckmere Haven. Disagree with the judges? Cast your vote in the People's Choice at the end of the Dark Skies Festival. #SouthDowns #EmbraceTheDarkness

  • 🌿 Exciting News: UK National Parks Announce New Partnership with Howdens 🌿 We are thrilled to announce a new two-year partnership between National Parks UK and Howdens, the leading UK trade kitchen supplier, to support nature recovery across some of the UK's most cherished landscapes. The collaboration will focus on enhancing biodiversity and restoring ecosystems, contributing to the fight against climate change. Two key projects — GrubsUp! in the North York Moors National Park and Bee Lines in the South Downs National Park Authority — will be supported by Howdens as part of this initiative. 🌱 GrubsUp! will focus on creating ‘insect super-highways’ in North Yorkshire, restoring vital wildlife habitats and boosting invertebrate populations. Bee Lines will help create wildflower corridors across the South Downs, promoting biodiversity and providing sustainable food sources for pollinators like bees and butterflies. This partnership not only supports the health of ecosystems but also engages local communities in the vital work of nature conservation. Howdens’ commitment to sustainability is evident in their ongoing efforts to promote environmental stewardship and wellbeing. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this partnership will have on our National Parks, wildlife, and communities for years to come! 🌍✨ #NatureRecovery #Sustainability #Partnership #Biodiversity #NationalParks #Howdens #BeeConservation #WildlifeProtection #ClimateAction #GrubsUp #BeeLines #ESG
