Beach trip 'wows' Northumberland school children As part of the Generation Green 2 project, children from Northumberland got their very first trip to the beach, spending a memorable day in Northumberland Coast National Landscape. The children built sandcastles, rockpooled and even helped out with a litterpick. Their review: “that was the best school day ever, I wish we could sleep here” Find out more about their day at the beach here: https://ow.ly/oABN50Uor3O The National Landscapes Association is proud to be part of the Access Unlimited partnership, delivering Generation Green 2, which is funded by Defra. We'll be sharing more Generation Green case studies over the coming weeks. 🍃 Farmers leading the charge on biofertiliser research A Farming in Protected Landscapes grant of £6000 has enabled farmer Rod Everett to develop his knowledge of biofertilisers, which could be a low-cost, nature friendly replacement for synthetic ones. Rod received funding from Forest of Bowland National Landscape's FiPL pot to help him develop his knowledge and to purchase equipment to make and research biofertilisers on his farm. He is a keen proponent of this work and shares his learning and findings with other farmers regionally and nationally. https://ow.ly/WSHh50UnnbS #FiPL #FarminginProtectedLandscapes #NatureFriendlyFarming #FarmingforNature #biofertiliser Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Natural England Forest of Bowland Nature Friendly Farming Network Wildlife and Countryside Link NFU (National Farmers' Union) Daniel Zeichner

This week the National Landscapes Association responded to Welsh Government's consultation on Sustainable Investment Principles. We strongly welcome the initiative to introduce principles aimed at driving ethical and effective funding for nature recovery in Wales. Our response highlights four key areas for action: 1. Empowering Communities and Small-Scale Projects 2. Ensuring Robust Governance and Oversight 3. Driving Financial Innovation 4. Aligning with Global and UK Standards See our response in full: https://ow.ly/yIgF50UmzTG #naturebasedsolutions #greenfinance #naturewales Llywodraeth Cymru / Welsh Government Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru / Natural Resources Wales Tirweddau Cymru Landscapes Wales

Brilliant #FiPL funded project working for heritage and biodiversity.
This old granary (in a field to the north of Fenham Farm) has an important place in the Northumberland Coast National Landscape’s agricultural history. It dates from 1731, and is located near the King Charles III England Coast Path on the shore of the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve, overlooking Holy Island. Thanks to a Historic Building Restoration Grant, the granary is currently undergoing extensive restoration using traditional methods and materials. This has been made possible because of Defra-funded programme, Farming in Protected Landscapes. The exciting project means this building's place in the landscape will be preserved for years to come. Plus, biodiversity benefits include the creation of bird scrapes (small depressions in the ground to hold water for breeding waders), hedge planting and nesting and roosting opportunities for birds and bats. Absolutely thrilled that Norfolk is now part of Big Chalk. A nature recovery network spanning 20% of England from Dorset to the Wash. A landmark moment.
On World Soil Day, we're excited to announce that Norfolk is now officially part of the Big Chalk geography! This significant expansion brings us one step closer to our vision of nature-rich chalk and limestone landscapes that benefit all of us. As we celebrate the vital role of soil in shaping our chalk and limestone landscapes and unique ecosystems, this is the perfect moment to highlight the importance of calcareous soils in defining Big Chalk’s geography. Thanks to extensive consultation, we've identified the right areas on which to focus our partnership's combined efforts, building a dynamic, continuous nature recovery network across 20% of England. The west of Norfolk is defined by its chalk, which contributes to the unique geology and habitats of the Brecks, with its rare grasslands, heathlands, and internationally important biodiversity. This strengthens our collective ability to restore nature at the scale nature needs. For more details, visit https://lnkd.in/grbTa6-G A huge thank you to Natural England for supporting this expansion, which aligns with Norfolk’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy. Together, we’re making powerful connections across boundaries to ensure nature's future! #BigChalk #NatureRecovery #WorldSoilDay #Biodiversity #SoilHealth #LandscapeRestoration #Norfolk #Conservation #PartnershipsForChange #TogetherForNature #Defra #Sustainability #PartnershipWorking #ClimateAction #ProtectedLandscapes Peddars Way & Norfolk Coast Path National Trail Fiona Hinds Edel McGurk Karen Faux #BigChalkConference #NatureRecovery #Conservation #Sustainability #TogetherForNature #ChalkLandscapes Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs National Landscapes Association National Trails UK National Parks UK Natural England Cotswolds National Landscape Chilterns National Landscape South Downs National Park Authority Dorset National Landscape Environment Agency Kent Downs National Landscape Mendip Hills AONB Surrey Hills National Landscape Soil Association Pasture for Life Plantlife International Butterfly Conservation Avon Wildlife Trust Siôn McGeever Bruce Winney Ruth Colbridge Kaye Jemmeson Polly Martin Simon Smith Norfolk County Council Norfolk Rivers Trust Ursula Juta Images © D Yates, J Ebbage, Cassie Chanin and S Odell

🌳 Leading from the Front: The Role of the Public Sector in Nature Recovery 🌿 Hannah and David from the National Landscapes Association team attended the Woodland Trust’s event in Westminster, for the launch of their new research report, Leading from the Front - The Role of the Public Sector in Nature Recovery. The event gave the opportunity to really question the state of play for nature markets. Dr. Sophus zu Ermgassen’s point struck a chord: we are overly reliant on poorly regulated nature markets. Private finance must complement public funding—not replace it—if nature is to truly thrive in the way we all want. Highlights included: Dr. Sophus zu Ermgassen (Oxford University) on the public sector’s critical role and the challenges in regulating nature markets. Expert responses from: Prof. Bob Smith (Durrell Institute) on prioritising locations for nature recovery. Rachel Solomon Williams (Aldersgate Group) on business needs for supporting biodiversity. Helen Avery (Green Finance Institute) on what’s working (and what isn’t) in green finance for nature. Toby Perkins MP, emphasizing Government accountability for nature recovery. The event underscored the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors to ensure these markets deliver real results on the ground. A huge thank you to the Woodland Trust for hosting this timely and thought-provoking discussion. 📷Hannah Wilcox-Brooke, Liam Marsh, #greenfinance #naturefinance Green Finance Institute Toby Perkins MP Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent Aldersgate Group

🗺️The path to 2031 The National Landscapes Association is proud to share its new strategy, including priority actions, taking us to 2031. With the right resourcing for National Landscapes, the strategy will take us to a point in time when the network will have made a significant contribution to the government’s pledge to protect 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030.
