Excited to see this analysis by global private market advisory StepStone Group on dual-use investment with contributions from the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF). Our team had the pleasure of debating some of the critical topics around unlocking the flow of private capital in dual use sectors during our investor community engagement in London last fall.

The defense landscape is changing fast. The face of weaponry has fundamentally shifted. As defense spending rises, a growing share is flowing into dual-use technology (DUT). 📃 Our latest paper, "Dual-use technology: Rewriting the rules of engagement," explores how these changes challenge traditional exclusion policies, forcing investors to consider how to adapt their investment frameworks—to tap into one of the most dynamic sectors driving national security, innovation, and economic growth. This paper explores why engagement and responsible defense investment are becoming key priorities for LPs and defense forces alike. Read it here: https://bit.ly/40WAQXL. #Defense #DualUseTechnology

  • 👩🔬👩💻Today is International Day of Women and Girls in Science – a day to celebrate women and the role they play in driving progress in science, technology and innovation.   This initiative strongly aligns with DIANA’s mission of accelerating dual-use innovation – which requires a diverse and representative community of innovators who can contribute fresh perspectives to solve global resilience and security challenges.   To mark the day, we’re spotlighting four remarkable women within the DIANA ecosystem – from our very own COO, Jyoti Hirani-Driver, and Director of Communications, Heather Desserud, to one of our innovators from last year’s cohort, Luca Mezossy-Dona, and the CEO at COVE, Melanie Nadeau, P.Eng. ICD.D. Find out how women in dual-use innovation are shaping a safer, more sustainable and resilient future.⬇️   #IDWGS #WomenInSTEM #DualUse #Innovation

  • 📣Big congratulations to IONATE, one of DIANA's inaugural cohort, on their Series A funding announcement!

  • The first day of our Defence and Security Days has brought our innovator community to Krakow, as we aim to bridge the gap between defence and innovation. 🤝✨   From sessions on defence market dynamics to workshops on export control regulation, today was all about helping DIANA’s innovators navigate complexities within the defence innovation ecosystem to help shape a more peaceful future.🧩🌍   Some of the key takeaways for our 2025 Cohort of start-up companies: - A clearer understanding of the key innovation drivers shaping the future of the defence industry. - A stronger grasp of how to navigate complex export regulations in global defence markets. - Deeper insights into how to identify and mitigate risks in defence markets. We’re off to a fantastic start, and we can’t wait to see more inspiring discussions and collaborations unfold over the next few days! #dualuse #startups #accelerator #innovation

Projectleider Brainport Innovation & Technology for Security (BITS) | Coordinator NATO DIANA Accelerator in Brainport Eindhoven

🚀 NATO DIANA kick-off week: dual-use innovation across Brainport Eindhoven Last Tuesday, the NATO DIANA kick-off week began with an inspiring event at Vliegbasis Eindhoven. The unique DIANA accelerator programme bridges the gap between innovative startups in the dual use domain and the armed forces of NATO member states. 🪖🔗 Out of 2600 applicants, 74 companies were selected, and this week, five of those companies from Germany, France (2x), Slovenia, and the US participated in an intensive programme to accelerate their innovations within Brainport Eindhoven. Highlights included: - Colonel Jorrit de Gruijter, commander of the Air Mobility Command who shared his vision and experiences at the Airbase and gave an insightful tour; - Pieter W.C.M. Cobelens, former General and MIVD director, who spoke about leadership and the current challenging international geopolitical landscape in a clear manner; - Gertie A., from Ministerie van Defensie/FRONT who added a personal touch in her keynote by sharing her journey, passion for innovation, and the importance of security in the Netherlands over decades; - Stephan Botz provided an excellent training about finding a dual use product-market fit and strategised about business models together with the startups. This dynamic and interesting week has laid a strong foundation for DIANA’s mission to drive impactful dual-use innovations. Together with my amazing colleagues Mariëlle Van Bijsterveld and Monique Greve, we look forward to further developing the programme in the coming months. The DIANA accelerator The Gate Brainport is powered by BITS: Brainport Innovation and Technology for Security in collaboration with Brainport Development, BOM (Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij), Provincie Noord-Brabant, Ministerie van Defensie, Ministerie van Economische Zaken, Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO). Thanks to all the speakers and everyone who has contributed this week! Let’s make it an inspiring journey together. 📸 Nadia ten Wolde

  • Another great kickoff, this time in Halifax, Canada. Thanks to COVE, one of the 13 accelerators across the Alliance working with innovators from our second cohort. Halifax is also the location of DIANA's North American office, joining Tallinn and London as DIANA's operations centres. We're pleased to see the enthusiasm for DIANA's mission throughout the region.

    Communications @ NATO DIANA

🌊 This past week, five innovators in NATO DIANA's most recent cohort of companies have been learning, connecting, and sharing ideas at the COVE Accelerator site. DIANA aims to locate and accelerate dual-use solutions for critical defence and security challenges. On a panel, our Military Deputy Director Paul Peyton noted that our North American HQ in #Halifax connects us with an accelerator site, universities, mentors, experts, industry leaders, and companies investing time and energy in innovations with commercial and security applications. Around the room last night, there is support for DIANA's mission and #Halifax's key role as an innovation ecosystem that brings all the key players together. A shout out to COVE, Melanie Nadeau, P.Eng. ICD.D., and the staff for an amazing event. Looking forward to what these innovators and the others across NATO achieve over the next few months in Phase I! #dualuse #innovation
