About us
We are the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), an organisation funded by the Department for Education (DfE) that aims to improve maths teaching in state schools across England. We want pupils of all ages to really understand maths and all its interconnections. And retain that understanding, not just so they pass tests and exams, but because that will benefit them in life—for ever. We do this by supporting the ongoing professional development of teachers—primary and secondary. The NCETM coordinates all the CPD activities run by the network of 40 Maths Hubs in England and produces high quality resources to complement the work. We’re not a big organisation: around 40 people, mostly former teachers, spread all over England, united in #ThePowerOfMaths.

⏰🏃♀️ Action is needed! The call for evidence on Curriculum and Assessment closes later today 🔬And it's time to put maths at post-16 under the microscope. 📊 Every year, around 170,000 students in England resit GCSE Mathematics. Despite their efforts—and those of their teachers—only 25% achieve a grade 4 by age 19 😟 This statistic reveals a deep flaw in our system, leaving thousands of young people without the qualifications they need to progress on to further education and training. Read the new blog post from NCETM Director Charlie Stripp and Director for Post-16 GCSE/FSQ Emma Bell, as they explore how bold curriculum and assessment reform could reshape the post-16 maths journey for those students, ensuring that every young person is able to develop the maths they will need for future study, training, life and work. Read their insights and share your thoughts 👇👇 (and respond to the call for evidence at https://lnkd.in/eahu9CfR) #CurriculumAndAssessmentReview #MathsAssessment #Post16 #GCSEResit #FEMaths #ThePowerOfMaths #NCETM #MathsHubs #TeachingForMastery

With a shortfall of over 173,000 workers in the STEM sector, schools need sustainable industry connections to inspire and prepare young people for STEM careers. The STEM Governor Toolkit, developed by AtkinsRéalis, Governors for Schools and GovernorHub, has been developed to do just that. The toolkit defines the role of STEM school governors and explains how industry colleagues can support schools so that every child can visualise themselves in a role in STEM. STEM governors work in partnership with teachers to strategically understand how their department is performing. They bring industry knowledge to help engage children and young people with STEM education from an early age. By bridging the gap between education and industry, STEM governors play a vital role in shaping the workforce of the future. Find out more: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ed8ptpgb
