NDT Group has enjoyed a busy period in Australia supporting Babcock Australasia with HMAS Canberra’s 5-2 EMP. As part of its service contract with Babcock to support critical fire safety systems onboard HMAS Canberra and Adelaide, NDT Australia was tasked with delivering an extensive scope of works on HMAS Canberra’s folding fire barriers throughout May and June. The Royal Australian Navy operates two large amphibious ships, HMAS Canberra and Adelaide. The vessels are designated as Landing Helicopter Docks - or LHDs - and provide a significant amphibious capability. To meet the seaworthiness requirements of deploying with such a large number of aircraft, HMAS Canberra and Adelaide are fitted with folding fire barriers within the hanger deck. In addition, a second folding fire barrier is fitted on the heavy vehicle deck. These fire barriers are Lloyds-certified and would play a critical role in restricting the spread of fire in the event of an incident or emergency on either deck. The scope of work incorporated all facets of NDT Group, including mechanical and electrical technicians and support from the company’s robust Australian supply chain network. Craig Miller, Managing Director of NDT Australia, said: “This project concludes four years of support for the LHD platform’s the subcontractor agreement we signed with Babcock in 2020. “We are exceptionally proud of the work we have delivered for Babcock ensuring the availability of both HMAS Canberra and Adelaide. “All of us at NDT Group look forward to working under the Maritime Support Model in the future." In May, the NDT team visited Singapore as part of RFA Lyme Bay’s planned overseas Annual Maintenance Period (AMP) at Seatrium Admiralty shipyard, Singapore. NDT's scope as part of her AMP was a conditional inspection of her exhaust systems, ensuring that both the ship’s 8L Generator and 12V Main Engine exhaust systems are in good condition as she continues her deployment as part of the UK’s Littoral Response Group (South). The team from NDT UK completed Lyme Bay’s previous conditional exhaust system inspection in Falmouth of June last year as part of our ongoing relationship with A&P Falmouth. For further information on our services, please contact Paul Miller or Stuart Howson.
Over the summer, A&P Falmouth completed RFA Lyme Bay’s Annual Certification Period (ACP24) in Singapore. A&P, part of the APCL Group, sent a team out to Seatrium Admiralty Shipyard in Sembawang, Singapore to support the repair period. A&P and Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders Limited’s dedicated Cluster Support Teams and Fleet Time Support Teams based in their facilities in Falmouth and Birkenhead, support 100% of the RFA’s fleet whilst they are in operational theatres across the Globe. RFA Lyme Bay’s programme of works consisted of a four week afloat maintenance together with a one week spell in dry dock which included 400 core items and 100 items of additional emergent work. A total of 40 UK subcontractors from over 20 UK businesses travelled out to Singapore to assist with the maintenance package enabling the ship to sail on time for its next deployment. APCL’s extensive knowledge of the vessels through repeat refits means it is able to deliver better quality, better value and better understanding for the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary – increasing efficiency in fleet time and non-maintenance fleet time. Matt Weetch, APCL Group Director of Defence, said: “It was fantastic to see RFA Lyme Bay undergo her maintenance period in Singapore. “It took a herculean effort from a vast range of subcontractors and suppliers from across the UK to complete nearly 500 repair tasks. “APCL Group prides itself on its ability to support the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary any time, any place across the globe." All at A&P and the wider APCL Group wish RFA Lyme Bay and her crew the best of luck in Operation Predators Run. For further information on A&P Defence, please visit: https://lnkd.in/euVsf7_H

The NDT team returned to Falmouth in April to visit RFA Mounts Bay at A&P Falmouth as part of her planned Annual Maintenance Period (AMP). Tasked with completing a conditional inspection of her exhaust systems, the team worked closely with the A&P project team and ship’s staff on-board RFA Mount’s Bay in order to complete our inspection. Our scope as part of her AMP is important to ensure that both the ship’s 8L Generator and 12V Main Engine exhaust systems are in good condition before her next overseas deployment later this year. It also allows NDT to highlight and discuss with A&P and ship’s staff about potential items for her next Repair Period. The team from NDT was also tasked with RFA Lyme Bay’s conditional exhaust system inspection in June last year as part of our ongoing relationship with A&P Falmouth. For further information on our services, please contact Paul Miller or Stuart Howson.
A&P Falmouth has recently completed RFA Mounts Bay’s Annual Certification Period (ACP). APCL Group company A&P Group has a longstanding contract to provide through-life support to RFA Mounts Bay at its facility in Falmouth. RFA Mounts Bay supports vital amphibious operations and exercises across the globe. The A&P team completed over 350 core activities during Mounts Bay’s ACP including the realignment of diesel generators, full recertification of her fire fighting systems as well as SOLAS work for lifeboats, davits and life saving equipment. The vessel’s scope of work also included the installation of specialist communication equipment and recertification of her commercial communication equipment, as well as upgrades and health checks to the vessel’s chilled water system and propulsion systems. Over 40 additional tasks were also completed including pipework, motor rewinds, painting and general repairs. On completion of her ACP, Mounts Bay successfully completed her Passenger Ship Safety Certificate. We wish Mounts Bay and her crew all the best on her next deployment.
