https://lnkd.in/eietf5dx? Is this the highest-value counterfeit case ever won against an individual? Onur Aksoy has been ordered to pay $100 million, having been found to have sold over $1 billion in counterfeit CISCO equipment. Buyers of fake equipment included U.S Navy, Air Force and Army, hospitals and schools.

https://lnkd.in/egbJA-_m Meta not doing enough to tackle scams on Marketplace A fair accusation and the response given by Meta does little to convince otherwise. Hopefully they will train AI on this problem soon.

https://lnkd.in/esM8CRPW Interesting case of organised crime involved in counterfeiting going a significant step further in sophistication. "these counterfeits bore the serial numbers of genuine Apple devices bought in the US and still under warranty." "It's not clear how those serial numbers were obtained, but with them on the devices, the brothers and associates would "return" these fake iPhones and iPads to Apple. The devices would pass a initial examination, at least by non-technical sales staff, and Apple would replace them with genuine iPhones and iPads."

https://lnkd.in/e6K8twbG Counterfeits on Walmart.com Walmart online is a serious problem for brand owners. Sales of Walmart online are now over $80 billion p.a. and growing fast. This is already about 8x bigger than eBay annual sales. Est. 160 million SKU’s on Walmart web store compared to 120,000 sold in their physical stores Disappointingly Walmart has followed the Amazon model, of allowing an untamed marketplace to grow large amongst its core online business. Shoppers wrongfully trust offers on Walmart website, even though many are from unknown sellers. Counterfeits on Walmart online store are already a big problem for brand owners and shoppers. For whatever reason, Amazon has not effectively tackled this problem - it seems unlikely that Walmart will do so for the foreseeable future. It will be largely left to brand owners to take action to have fake offers removed. The below article ends with a really good point about possible impact of this business model on trust; “If you put your name on a website, you're making a promise to your customers. You're making a promise about every experience they have with your company, and every product they buy on your website. Every time you break that promise, you lose a little bit of trust. That's a problem because, it turns out, trust is your most valuable asset.” If you would like help to tackle the Walmart problem send me a message on Linkedin.
