We're committed to building as many affordable homes and it's really important to us that we make sure that local people benefit from the development and regeneration work we do. We’re pleased to share that we’ll be running a free course at our Wembley office in October to help people obtain a CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card which is essential for working on construction sites. If you’re looking to enter the construction industry and gain access to various job opportunities on construction sites, or if you know someone who is looking for these opportunities, this one-day course is perfect! We’re really pleased to be part of the London Homes Coalition which has launched a new report ‘Building Skills for the Future’. Based on a first-of-its-kind analysis of the consolidated asset management and new build programmes of the housing associations in the Coalition, the report reveals a critical labour and skills shortage that threatens the maintenance, retrofit and provision of social and affordable housing in the capital. It also provides three strategic solutions to address this crucial challenge. We need to act now and work together with the Government, industry leaders, and education providers to future-proof London’s social housing sector, ensuring the provision of high-quality affordable housing for its residents. We welcome the new Government’s commitment to promoting workforce and training plans for the construction sector and scaling up social and affordable housebuilding across the country. We hope this report provides a strategic direction for future policies and we want to work together to achieve these targets. Our work does not stop here. This is only the first step of a long-term collaborative effort, and we want to bring more committed organisations to this initiative to help us turn these recommendations into reality! We’re really proud of our LeadershipNOW! graduates Jas Shergill and Sunday Ikie.CertCIH who attended a special graduation ceremony chaired by our very own Nathalia Bent, in her role UNIFY Network's Learning and Development Director. The LeadershipNOW! programme, in partnership with UNIFY Network, is delivering exceptional leadership development for diverse housing professionals who need dedicated training, coaching and support to achieve their leadership aspirations. Every year we sponsor two of our colleagues to attend the programme and SNG has been there since the start and we’ve seen it grow and our colleagues progress in their career. Well done to all 2023/24 graduates!

SNG supported The Big Help Out earlier in June with a series of 35 grants worth a total of over £7,000 aimed at supporting a series of great community initiatives to make a difference to people's lives. The Big Help Out is a nationwide campaign that helps millions of people volunteer each year via a website and app populated by tens of thousands of charities. Most activity in 2024 took place on Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June. The Big Help Out platform remains open until August 31st. The three-day event is run by Together; a coalition dedicated to bridging divides and building communities that are kinder, closer and more connected. As well as providing much-needed support, volunteering also enables people to gain valuable new skills, confidence, experience and friends. SNG supported a wider range of community initiatives with microgrants of up to £300 each. Among the projects were the Together We are Big project in the London borough of Brent. This was aimed at empowering volunteers during The Big Green Week to raise awareness about climate change, promote sustainable living practices, and support local initiatives through community artwork. In Hook, Hampshire, a £300 grant from SNG was used for a stall at an event to promote a local recycling scheme called Village Magpies to get new volunteers and new recycling points. #TheBigHelpOut #Volunteering

Celebrating Pride Month with SNG 🌈🏳️🌈 We're committed to ensuring our communities and workplaces celebrate equality and difference, helping us better support colleagues and customers. One organisation we've partnered with is Oxfordshire youth charity, TRAIN - Inspiring Young People. TRAIN established its LGBTQIA+ Allyship group early in 2022, to address the lack of support for young LGBTQ+ individuals outside of Oxford city centre. Their weekly “SHOUT!” sessions provide safe spaces for the community and allies to connect, learn, and support one another. Our Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) micro grant enabled the SHOUT! Youth Group to visit the Queer Britain Museum in London recently - the first and only LGBTQIA+ museum in the UK. This was a fantastic opportunity for the group to celebrate LGBTQ+ history and contributions, providing a positive and affirming experience away from their regular sessions. #PrideMonth #Pride2024

We're hugely proud to have three of our team, Anup Dholakia, Cameron Anterkyi, and Jamie Joyce featured in Inside Housing's 40 under 40, the largest number of any housing association. Representing roles that work with customers around building safety, enable our access to funding and provide essential data and insights, they are demonstrative of the broad skills, talent, and commitment in SNG and across the housing sector. #Housing24

Building good, affordable homes is essential to tackling the housing crisis and we are proud to be the second biggest builder amongst housing associations in Inside Housing's annual survey. Over 2,000 households moved into a new SNG home last year, an amazing achievement by our teams, but we know that there are millions more people whose lives are held back by a lack of housing. We are actively building our pipeline but we know there are challenges faced the sector. As highlighted by our Chief Investment and Development Officer, Tom Titherington, housing associations need a fair long-term rent settlement, stable regulation, investment in skills, and changes to planning to invest and deliver homes. https://lnkd.in/gmaBRNsC
