How My Family’s Story of Loss Led to Freedom Through Movement Did you know the spine isn’t just a column of bones? It’s a story—your story. Every twist, every curve, every held breath carries the weight of where you’ve been, who you’ve been, and what you’ve overcome. For me, my spine carries a story I didn’t live through but still feel deeply. My great-grandparents lost their lives during the Holocaust—a fate so heavy it’s almost unspeakable. They were stripped of freedom, voice, and expression. And while I didn’t know them, their legacy runs through me. Here’s the thing about generational trauma: It sits quietly, like a shadow, in your body. You might not notice it, but it shapes the way you move—how you carry yourself, how you live in your body. Creating Free Your Spine wasn’t just about helping others move better. It was about finding my own freedom: Freedom from the weight of untold stories. Freedom to stand tall, breathe deeply, and move joyfully. Freedom to rewrite a narrative of loss into one of resilience, alignment, and play. I imagine my great-grandparents—what they lost, but also what they passed on: courage, strength, and a longing for freedom. In some ways, Free Your Spine is for them. And for me. And for anyone else carrying something unseen that feels too heavy. Because here’s the truth: Movement is liberation. It’s where we meet ourselves again—playfully, joyfully, without apology. So when you roll down your spine, when you breathe space between the bones, when you let your body flow in ways it never has before—you’re not just moving. You’re reclaiming freedom. What stories does your body carry? And how will you free them? How Being a Middle Child Shaped My Vision for Free Your Spine Pilates Growing up as a middle child often felt like living in the "in-between"—not the trailblazing eldest or the carefree youngest, but somewhere in the middle, navigating the space between. It shaped me in ways I didn’t fully understand until much later. I often felt unseen, trying to find my voice in the shuffle of family dynamics. I became sensitive to imbalance—not just in relationships, but in myself. I longed for a sense of freedom, alignment, and self-expression, even when I didn’t have the words to articulate it. That experience left its mark, but it also planted the seeds for something extraordinary: the creation of Free Your Spine Pilates. Here’s how the “middle child experience” helped me create a movement method: 👉 Empathy for Others' Struggles Feeling unseen taught me to notice when others feel the same. I developed a deep empathy for those who feel disconnected—whether from their bodies, their confidence, or their sense of self. 👉 A Need for Freedom and Alignment Growing up balancing the expectations around me sparked my desire for harmony and alignment—not just in movement, but in life. Free Your Spine became my way of helping others find physical, emotional, and energetic balance. 👉 Self-Leadership and Empowerment As a middle child, I had to carve my own path and create my own identity. That resilience and independence are at the heart of Free Your Spine, which is all about empowering midlife women to reclaim their agency and self-expression. 👉 Turning Struggles into Strengths What once felt like a challenge became my greatest strength. I channeled those feelings of being stuck or unseen into a method that helps others move freely, confidently, and with purpose. Free Your Spine Pilates isn’t just about movement—it’s about transformation. It’s about finding your center in the chaos, freeing yourself from the expectations that hold you back, and stepping fully into your power. For anyone who’s ever felt stuck in the “in-between,” I hope my story reminds you that there’s beauty in those spaces. Sometimes, they lead to incredible things. What experiences from your past have shaped the work you do today? I’d love to hear your story. #MiddleChild #FreeYourSpine #Pilates #Empowerment #SelfLeadership #MidlifeTransformation

Flow Requires Trust: Lessons from Free Your Spine In Free Your Spine, we often say that "emotions are energy in motion." This principle is both a truth of the body and a metaphor for life. To stay aligned with your goals—especially when you’re pushing boundaries or navigating uncertainty—you need to trust the process of flow. Some days, this means resilience: showing up, staying grounded, and moving forward despite obstacles. Other days, it’s about surrender: letting go, taking more rest, and inviting play into your day. Flow doesn’t mean always pushing harder; it’s about finding balance. When energy feels stuck—whether in your body, emotions, or work—it’s an invitation to release tension, reconnect with yourself, and create space for clarity. How You Can Trust Flow: Listen to Your Body: Movement creates space for flow. A few simple stretches can release physical tension and allow emotions to move through you. Integrate Play: Laughter, curiosity, and lightness aren’t distractions—they’re fuel for creativity and problem-solving. Give Yourself Permission to Rest: Rest isn’t weakness; it’s the foundation of resilience. Staying ahead of the curve requires both structure and flexibility—allowing energy to flow where it’s needed most. What’s one small shift you can make today to trust your flow? Let me know in the comments, or share your own reflections. Together, we can free our spines and create space for what’s next. #Leadership #Resilience #FreeYourSpine #FlowAndTrust #CreativeWellness

I worked For a health and wellness start up some years ago before I started to rev the engine for Free Your Spine. We talked about getting that project into SXSW in Austin, Texas. Fast forward some years I pitched FYS for SXSW in 2022 and 2023 and miraculously FYS was selected out of 1000s of applications. SXSW is now coming to London in 2025 and I would love to share this experience with our London community next summer as strongly believe in the powers of spinal and mindful movement to elevate our energy, reclaim our movement mojo in midlife and help prevent/stave off back pain. Please vote for FYS! PS You have to create an account to vote which is a simple 1, 2 process and then the name of the FYS proposal is ‘Free Your Spine to Free Your Mind’ With thanks Link is in the comments to vote !

I am a club culture kid through and through. I grew up in the club. From the age of 14 you would find me grooving at spots in London like The Wag, Limelight, The Clinic, The Blue Note (none of which exist now!) Then from 16/17 onwards I got heavily immersed in Hip Hop Culture and fell in love with the dance styles of Breakin’, American street Locking and popping. I would religiously go to The Africa Centre and Breakin’ Bread every weekend pretty much and the club became my go to playground for self- expression. I credit the club, Hip Hop and growing up in the 90s in London as the foundational inspirations for Free Your Spine. I say that if the club and a Yoga/Pilates studio were to have a kid she be called Free Your Spine. 😂 In my latter years from around 22 onwards and dealing with a fair bit of acute and chronic injury and back pain, this is when I explored movement practices that were calmer in my nervous system and healing and helpful for my back. Enter an array of Yoga, Pilates and somatic styles. Somatic connecting feeling and awareness into your body movement. It’s the straddling of the two worlds of club culture and Mindful movement for the back and body which I believe make Free Your Spine a little different to what’s out there currently. Please help me bring this experience to SXSW in London next year! Your support is greatly appreciated 🙏🙏🙏 You can vote by going to the link in the comments. The Path of Doing Different: Lessons from Free Your Spine Being ahead of the curve sounds exciting, even glamorous. You’re innovating, breaking norms, and blazing a trail for others to follow. But the truth is, being ahead of the curve often feels more like navigating an obstacle course—where every step is uncertain, every leap requires courage, and the path can feel lonely and uncharted. When I founded Free Your Spine, I was driven by a vision to create something that didn’t yet exist: a holistic movement method that marries spinal alignment, emotional flow, and creative self-expression. It’s a simple but profound idea—the body, mind, and spirit are inextricably connected, and the spine holds a wealth of wisdom to tap into when it comes to physical/emotional and mental freedom. But doing something different meant facing skepticism. It meant explaining, over and over, why this work matters, why it’s not "just Pilates," and why a playful, creative approach to spinal health is as much about the mind as it is about the body. Here’s what I’ve learned on this path of doing different: Alignment Isn’t Just Physical Just as the spine needs alignment to function well, so does your vision. Staying true to your values and your mission—even when the world isn’t ready—gives you the foundation to move forward with confidence. Flow Requires Trust In Free Your Spine, we teach that emotions are energy in motion. To navigate the obstacle course of being ahead of the curve, you have to allow that energy to flow. Some days, it’s about resilience. Other days, it’s about surrendering to the process. Taking more rest, upping the play in your day. Play is the Secret Ingredient The path of doing different can be heavy—but it doesn’t have to be. Incorporating creativity and joy into your journey helps you move through the challenges with lightness. Play isn’t frivolous; it’s a strategy for innovation and sustainability. It’s OK to Pause Obstacles will slow you down, and that’s a good thing. Just as the body needs moments of rest to reset, so does your journey. Pausing allows you to recalibrate, reflect, and find the strength to keep moving forward. Ahead of the Curve Means You’re a Bridge. In Free Your Spine, we see the spine as a literal and metaphorical bridge—connecting the past, present, and future, the internal and external. When you’re ahead of the curve, you’re building a bridge for others to walk across. It’s not easy work, but it’s meaningful. If you’re navigating your own obstacle course of doing different, remember: Align with your purpose. Let your energy flow. Bring creativity and joy to the process. Rest when you need to. Because one day, others will look to you as proof that this path—though challenging—was worth it. How are you staying aligned in your journey of doing different? Share your thoughts below—let’s connect through our collective experiences. #Leadership #Innovation #FreeYourSpine #DoingDifferent #Resilience

Dopamine Dressing: A Free Your Spine Perspective Who would have thought this is a thing! Dopamine dressing isn’t just about the clothes you wear—it’s a statement of self-expression that directly influences how you feel, move, and engage with the world. At Free Your Spine, we are gutturally passionate on the profound connection between the mind, body, and spirit, and how clothing can be a vehicle for soul confidence, creativity, and well-being. Dopamine dressing involves choosing colors, patterns, and textures that spark joy and elevate your mood. It’s about dressing in a way that feels authentic and empowering, giving your brain a boost of feel-good hormones. From our perspective, it’s also an invitation to align your outer expression with your inner vitality. When you wear something that makes you feel alive, you stand taller, move with more ease, and radiate confidence. Posture and movement are deeply influenced by how you feel in your own skin—and in your clothes. Over here, we encourage mindful dressing that supports the natural alignment of your body. Soft, breathable fabrics and clothing that allows for freedom of motion are as vital as vibrant hues and playful designs. Today earthy tones are getting my bones and muscles feeling good and grounded. Spinal Alignment Meets Personal Expression IS a vibe. Imagine putting on an outfit that not only looks incredible but also supports your ability to stretch, breathe, and feel grounded. That’s dopamine dressing through a Free Your Spine lens—combining style with function to ensure that what you wear enhances both your physical posture and emotional state.
