Ending but not finished. Today our Chair of Trustees, Michael Sanders, shares his thoughts on our closure. Read the full post on our website. "I wish I could tell you that the Association was closing its doors because our mission had been accomplished - that student mental health was no-longer an issue. I can’t. In fact, our research, published last month, shows that the number of students experiencing a mental health challenge has continued to rise, reaching more than one in every six students." https://lnkd.in/e6ZT8UJN #Nightline #StudentMentalHealth #Closure
About us
The Nightline Association was established in 2006 as an umbrella charity to support, promote and develop university Nightline services. Our vision: For every student in higher and further education to have access to the support offered by Nightline services so that: - every student is able to talk about their feelings in a safe, non-judgmental environment; - fewer students have their education compromised by emotional difficulties; - fewer students die by suicide. Our mission: To raise the quality, profile, availability, and accessibility of Nightline services so that every student is aware of, and has access to, confidential emotional peer support, as well as the opportunity to volunteer for a Nightline.

Today we announce that the Nightline Association will be closing its doors on 30 June 2025, while Nightlines will be continuing to run their student-led listening services. As it has been for many umbrella organisations, we've found the last year or so difficult to recruit volunteers and secure funding. This has been a very difficult decision to make, and we will be working tirelessly over the next few months to ensure Nightlines, along with their stakeholders, will continue their vital work. The Association will leave a legacy that continues to support Nightlines into the future - finding a new home for its training standards, technical and IT support, and other guidance. While we're here for a few more months, we may be a little quiet as we focus on the doing... For now, a huge thank you to everyone who has volunteered with the Association, everyone who has supported the Association, and everyone who has championed our work. Thank you.

Back when the Nightline Association was known as 'National Nightline', we had the privilege of being chosen for the Radio 4 Appeal. And who better to deliver our message than Stephen Fry, the President of Mind and a tireless supporter and advocate for everyone experiencing mental health problems. If you're interested in supporting students through Nightline, you can donate or fundraise on our behalf through our website.

Today we turn back the clocks to the year 2000, when a little band called Coldplay fundraised for Nightline a month before releasing their magic debut album 'Parachutes'. Under a sky full of stars, the band put a smile on every face 💛 Don't panic if you're in trouble at midnight; while our Nightline volunteers aren't there to fix you, they can help you talk through your feelings confidentially and with no judgement. (count the Coldplay song titles puns)

The first of our Awareness Week throwbacks is to 2016, when Channel 4 show 'Fresh Meat' captured the full university experience with awkward flatmate encounters, last minute dissertation writing, and calling Nightline. If your friends are busy and you need to chat through relationship troubles (like Josie), Nightline is here to listen.

This week is Nightline Awareness week! It's our chance to make some noise and show off our fantastic service and incredible volunteers. We're focusing on 'kindness' this year, in all its forms. Keep an eye on our socials for a daily roundup of how our Nightlines are raising awareness, and here we'll be exploring Nightline's history of kindness. How can you show kindness to others today?

The theme of World Mental Health Day last week was 'mental health in the workplace', so our staff member Hannah Bayliss chats about her mental health, and the students juggling studies and working. Remember, if you have worries about work and study, you can talk anonymously to a Nightline volunteer. We'll listen, not lecture. [We're a bit late posting this, but that's because we're looking after our mental health and trying not to over do it when there were a number of competing deadlines. We try and listen to our own advice here too!] #FindYourNightline #StudentMentalHealth #WorldMentalHealthDay
