We would like to say a big thank you to Krishani Ranaweera and colleagues from Group Lotus who spent the afternoon on Friday tackling our patient garden at Colman Hospital. The outside space provides a tranquil and cheerful spot for patients who are rehabilitating at Birch Unit with friends and family, to take a break from the busy ward environment. The team thrashed their way through a million tonnes of leaves, sorted the flower beds, cut back tangling bushes and planted some bulbs to provide some spring cheer. The great thing about being a small and local charity, is being able to demonstrate the difference that a donation can make from donors. This week, our brain injury specialist inpatient ward physiotherapy team welcomed back Maz who received treatment for a stroke. To say thank you to the team, she organised a fundraising ball with family and friends to raise over £10,000 and funded 2 specialist walking devices to support patients with being able to sit to stand and start to walk independently in a safe way. Maz was really happy to see the team again, show off her walking progress and see the equipment first hand and hear what a difference it's made. She said 'I really enjoyed seeing everyone again, and lovely to see where the money has gone and being put to good use made all my hard work worthwhile.'
