Jake is an Origination Partner at Flagship Pioneering, where he leads a team that founds, builds, and grows companies based on new biotechnology. Jake co-founded Quotient Therapeutics, Sana Biotechnology, Inc., Tessera Therapeutics, and launched Kaleido Biosciences. Today, Jake serves as CEO of Quotient, Flagship’s first company to be co-located in Cambridge, UK and Cambridge, MA. Jake, who began as a Fellow in 2015, is the first former Fellow to become a Pioneering Business Unit (PBU) lead, one of the most senior positions at the company. Before joining Flagship, Jake earned his PhD in microbiology from MIT, working in the Synthetic Biology Center with Professor Tim Lu with the support of a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Jake holds multiple pending patents and has published in journals like Nature and Nature Communications. He was recognised in Forbes' 2017 30 under 30 list in science, Endpoints’ 2021 20(+1) Under 40 list of next-gen biotech leaders, and Business Insider’s 2021 list of 12 young serial entrepreneurs in biotech. 🌿 Activator Update - The Eco Track ⚡ Nucleate Eco is a specialised track within the Nucleate Activator program supporting the commercialisation of technologies tackling sustainability challenges. It drives innovation across sectors like food, agriculture, materials, chemicals, and more, with alumni companies emerging from fields such as cellular agriculture, biomanufacturing, and bioremediation. The Activator bridges the knowledge gap for academics with promising sustainability technologies who aspire to become entrepreneurs. Through six months of curated workshops and personalised mentorship - we cater to the fundamental needs of our applicants. Our workshops address topics from co-founder matching and product-market fit to company culture and IP protection. 💫 Global Track Record Nucleate’s Activator programme has supported the development of 53 Eco track ventures across 10 of its 32 regional chapters globally. Collectively, these ventures have raised approximately $20.75M in investments during their involvement in the program. Notable alumni include Foray Bioscience and Wild Microbes from the Boston chapter, which raised $3.4M and $3.6M respectively, BioHalo from the Denmark chapter and Change Bio from the UK chapter’s inaugural Activator cohort.
