CEO Tahnee McCorry facilitated a day’s "Listen, Learn, Lead" training session with the staff team at North West Regional College (NWRC) During this session, thoughtful conversations centered around violence against women and girls, the importance of putting an end to potential limiting misogyny, and equipping men to be the allies we need—all with student safety and empowerment at the heart of the discussion. #ListenLearnLead

  • NWRC is now recruiting the first cohort of students for its Inspire, Enthuse, Equip project, offering courses in community development and youth work. Delivered over the next two years, this initiative follows a successful £196K tender bid to Derry City & Strabane District Council and is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) - European Funding. The project provides training from Level 1 to Level 3 in areas such as Community Development, Volunteering Skills, Youth Work, Diversity, and Good Relations. Participants will also gain valuable cross-community experience through site visits. The first course will be hosted at the Currynierin Community Association, but applicants are welcome from across the entire DCSDC area. The first course begins on Tuesday, February 18th (7.00-9.30pm), and there are still places available! • For Student Volunteer Week, the Plumbing Traineeship students are working in collaboration with Repair and Share Foyle, a local community-based organisation. They are installing a fully functional oil-fired heating system in the organisation’s new premises. By participating in this project, the students are gaining experience in installing and assembling heating systems, while providing a crucial service to the community. This project not only enhances their technical abilities, including pipe cutting, soldering, and system assembly, but also helps develop problem-solving skills as they troubleshoot and address potential issues. Annette Smith, Project-Based Learning Co-Ordinator, commented, “It’s fantastic to see our Plumbing students contributing to the community in such a meaningful way.” Joe Porteous, Curriculum Manager, added, “This project offers our students the chance to apply their skills in a real-world setting, while also developing a sense of social responsibility. They’re not just learning how to be better plumbers; they’re learning how to make a positive impact.”
