Even motivated individuals need RIGHT set-up, incentives and culture to play their best game. To build a balanced squad, the Board must ensure complementary skills (both hard and soft) among team members. 2. CEOs and Operating Partners(OP) come in various flavors and specific strengths/challenges for each type. To realize value creation plan, OP should both challenge and support portfolio company management. Hence mutual fit, adaptability, and pragmatism are key to successful partnership. 3. In-house value creation function is required to articulate their "value to the fund" and each OP needs to demonstrate his/her individual impact nowadays.
