We have ✨ really big ✨ news. We won’t spoil it for you: Swipe to see what we’re up to. 😉 Okay, we’ll give you some hints: 1. 💙 Our fantastic team member, Gemma, is an important part of the big news 2. 🤯 At some point, cloning Gemma or offering her literal twin a job seemed like the best solution 3. 🙃 We decided against it, but looking back on the project, we think cloning Gemma might actually have been easier Any guesses what we’re up to? 👀 Here’s another hint: During the year and two months Gemma’s been with us, she’s delivered our Wavemaker Workshops to 9,797 people. That took her 🚂 194 trains, 🚌 12 buses and ☕️ 850 cups of coffee. Still, she couldn’t visit everyone. But that’s we want: Bringing the 🌊 Ocean to everyone, everywhere. Luckily for Gemma, we found a solution. ✅ We’re building an online learning platform to bring our UNESCO-endorsed Wavemaker programme online. Check it our here, and start learning so Gemma can stop living out of a suitcase 👉 https://lnkd.in/e-XbKABC #OceanGeneration #Ocean #OceanEducation #OneOcean #OceanDecade #OceanScience #Wavemakers #WorldOceanDay

We are all the Ocean Generation.
About us
We are empowering an inclusive global movement to tackle Ocean threats through Science and Storytelling. No fear-mongering, no big-data, no over-simplifications. We’re changing the narrative. ✅ We break down the biggest human-threats our Ocean faces, like plastic pollution and climate change; shift the perceptions and behaviours that create them; and are empowering the world to live more sustainably. WHAT WE DO: 🌊 We translate complex Ocean science into engaging content and practical actions. Using film and popular culture, we make learning about the environment interesting and relatable. 🏆 This Ocean Intelligence approach is endorsed by UNESCO and integrated into our youth engagement programmes. 🙌 Our youth programmes, for 3 – 25-year-olds, introduce young people to the importance of the Ocean, educate them about the ways we impact it and the solutions it holds, and empower them with tools they can use to take action. If you're alive today, you're part of the generation - the Ocean Generation - who can turn the tide and restore the health of our blue planet. 💙

Here are 8 incredible octopus species that might just blow your mind 🤯🐙 Swipe 👉 to learn more about an octopus that has transparent skin, a giant that boasts with more taste receptors on a single suction cup than the human 👅 tongue (and it has thousands!), and a deep-sea living octopus that can’t camouflage itself, but is still nearly invisible.👀 Did you notice how most of these octopuses are pictured on the seafloor? 📍 That’s because most octopuses are benthic animals (=they live on the seafloor). 🌊 Some, like the argonauts (the guys with the detachable reproductive arm) live in open water. It’s called pelagic. Our blue planet is the gift that just keeps giving. 🌍🎁 💙If you looked down at Earth from space, most of what you'd see is blue. And the Ocean? It's keeping us all alive. Did you know that: 1. 🌊 The Ocean absorbs around 30% of the CO2 we produce, as well as 90% of excess heat. 2. 🙌 The Ocean provides every second breath we take 3. 🌡️ It helps regulate land temperature and drive global weather patterns. In short, the Ocean is the beating heart and lungs of our planet.🙌 This holiday season, take a moment to appreciate the gifts that Mother Nature and our Ocean give us every day.💙 📷: Justin Peters (jstnptrs on Instagram) #OceanGeneration #Ocean #OceanDecade #OceanThreats #OceanSolutions #OceanEducation #SeaLife #EnvironmentalEducation #MarineLife #Nature #DidYouKnow #MotherEarth #BluePlanet #Christmas #Holidays

👀 Have you read our most popular science articles in 2024? This year, we set out to explain the Ocean. No easy feat, we know. 🫠 But what we wanted to do is answer common questions asked about the Ocean and explore key ecosystems like the 🐻❄️ poles to the deepest parts of the Ocean; from the tiniest of creatures to the largest animal ever to have lived (the blue whale 🐳). Our science team has researched and published 29 science-backed articles, 💙 full of fascinating facts and engaging stories about our Ocean. The three articles people have enjoyed the most are: 1. 🐙 Interesting animals that use bioluminescence in the deep Ocean: https://lnkd.in/eqc3MEXP 2. 👀 How marine life survives in the intertidal zone: https://lnkd.in/dcz9HYJR 3. 🌊 Motion of the Ocean explained: Waves and tides: https://lnkd.in/eGi-_8rd In 2025, stay tuned for learning all about otters 🦦 in kelp forests, coral reef restoration projects, unique ecosystem like estuaries, fascinating species of the Galápagos Islands – and many more topics! 🥳 #MarineScience #Ocean #Sea #MarineConservation #EnvironmentalEducation #Environment #SDGs #OceanConservation #ScienceCommunicator #Education #Learning #MarineLife

This is SUCH a meaningful moment for us. 🥳 We’ve been recognised as 2024 Gold Standard Internship Host by The University of Oxford. 🥳 We started hosting Crankstart interns in 2022. 🙌 Since then, we’ve had four interns helping our Youth Engagement team, six interns supporting our Marine Science Officer and one intern working in Fundraising. Every intern who joins us is an undergraduate student and we learn so much from every single one of them. During the few weeks that they're with us, they support practical projects 🌊 that further our work in Ocean education. Swipe to see some examples of the exceptional work they get up to. 💙 We’re so grateful for them! And we can’t wait to welcome our next interns, this time as a 2024 Gold Standard Internship Host. 🥳 Big shout out to Kavina, Gemma, Nadia, Jemma, Saithya and Devyn for mentoring each of the interns that have joined us through the years. #OceanGeneration #Ocean #OceanEducation #OneOcean #OceanDecade #Wavemakers #WavemakerWorkshop #ImperfectEnvironmentalism #PersonalDevelopment #Internship #CrankstartScholars

This is what *actually* causes climate change 👀 Explained👇 The thing is: The Earth’s climate has changed naturally for billions of years. 🌍 But now, human emissions are rewriting the story. To understand how, first we need to take a look at: 1. 🌞 Natural forcings = forces that act upon Earth’s climate (like volcanoes and Ocean currents), and 2. 🚢 External forcings = things we’re doing that release extra greenhouse gases (like burning fossil fuels). Swipe 👉 for a quick and interesting explainer about all things climate change. 📷: jstnptrs on Instagram #OceanGeneration #Ocean #OceanDecade #OceanThreats #OceanSolutions #OceanEducation #SeaLife #EnvironmentalEducation #MarineLife #Nature #DidYouKnow #ClimateChange #ClimateChangeExplained

🚨 New article on our Science Hub As our populations grow, we’re having increased interactions with wildlife.🐻❄️ But why are conservation biologists are increasingly concerned about it in the polar regions? We’re explaining it in our new article, but briefly: 1. 🐟 Because the polar regions are home to many endemic species (= they live there, and nowhere else on the planet), 2. 🌍 Climate change, tourism, invasive species and many other issues threaten these species 3. 🏠 Plus: Did you know that the Arctic is home to around 4 million people as well?
