We are delighted to see the Public Engagement in Data Research Initiative (PEDRI) has published a refreshed version of their Good Practice Standards for public engagement. These are built on two years of collaboration with the public and professionals. OSR’s work on data sharing and linkage has repeatedly highlighted the importance of meaningfully engaging with the public on decisions made about using data for research and people’s awareness of data as a public asset: PEDRI’s guidelines for public engagement are welcome progress towards enabling this. See the Standards here - https://lnkd.in/ehESfHH7 Coordinated by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), PEDRI is a partnership of organisations, all working together to create a culture of good public engagement in the data and statistics sector. OSR is pleased to be part of this initiative. You can find out about PEDRI’s work, along with tools, guidance, events and news from the world of public engagement in data research, on PEDRIs new look website: https://bit.ly/4fDTkCh

RSS/OSR Code of Practice for Statistics open forum Thursday 14 November 4pm - 5.15pm Register now - https://lnkd.in/ehCkS2fH We are refreshing the Code of Practice for Statistics and are holding a period of consultation and engagement. As part of this, we are hosting an online event, along with the Royal Statistical Society, open to all with an interest in official statistics, whether as users, producers or methodologists. The RSS are particularly looking at how the Code can support and reflect its vision of more public statistics: how we can capitalise on the increasing amounts of data available and look beyond official statistics to help answer society’s most important questions? We are refreshing our Code of Practice for Statistics (the Code) to ensure that it continues to meet the evolving needs of the statistics system, setting the highest standards of ‘Trustworthiness, Quality and Value’, and that it is also useful for wider professional application. The Code sets the standards for official statistics, but we are increasingly seeing it play an important role for wider organisations and professions that want to reassure their audiences about how they produce and use data, through Code-led initiatives like Voluntary Application and Intelligent Transparency. We are seeking feedback on our proposals for a new edition of the Code via public consultation, which will run from 23 October 2024 until 14 February 2025. Have your say 👉 https://lnkd.in/dBf9DVAE

We have completed a quality focused assessment of Office for National Statistics' Business Investment statistics. Our report includes five key requirements for ONS to address in order to maintain its status as accredited official statistics. We found that the distinct categorisation of Business Investment as a standalone measure has been widely praised by users, along with ONS’s proactive engagement with its key users. However, our requirements include the need for better understanding of the impact of sampling decisions, carrying out and publishing revisions analysis, adopting Reproducible Analytical Pipelines (RAP) principles, and enhancing user engagement with a wider range of industry experts. https://lnkd.in/eT-k-7yi
