About us

In November 2016, British football was rocked by a series of high-profile revelations regarding child sexual abuse. Several former professional players bravely waived their right to anonymity to speak out about their past abuse. A number of the players involved decided to set up The Offside Trust, a new organisation committed to supporting survivors and working to make sport safer for children. The Trust is led by ex- footballer Steve Walters and former professional golfer Chris Unsworth, whose stories have inspired hundreds of people to speak out for the first time about their abuse. Our aims are to: End abuse in sport, so kids can be kids; and Support the healing journey of survivors of abuse. The Offside Trust already has the support of clubs, players and former professionals throughout the sporting world. We focus on all sports, not just football. We are grateful for the support that we are getting from everyone including the people in cricket, rugby, golf and boxing, helping to raise further awareness across sport. The Offside Trust works alongside governing bodies, charities and organisations that deal with safeguarding.

Another great Offside Trust awareness day Daly (Group) Ltd stadium for Fakenham FC v Woodbridge FC. Very good game won by the away side but above all great interaction from all at the stadium and even more pleasing to be in other to hold an awareness day at Woodbridge Town FC later in March next year. Sad to report yet two more people came forward to report they had been abused but were heartened that our speaking out and help had really helped them and said without us they would not have reported. It’s so humbling but shows we are doing everything right at the moment to help people. Now onto our workshop at East Bergholt FC in Suffolk tomorrow.

So there awareness days then there are Awareness Days when you have an amazing time at a very special club. Yes the result went the wrong way but to speak to over 750 people around our work. Support 5 people that came to ask what they do next from being abused to were they get help moving forward after suffering dreadful abuse and wanted to ask us the best way to move forward is incredible. I’m humbled they trust us and well too many tears today speaking about what they are going through and doing our best to assist them In tough times. Thankyou all for trusting us to assist you. .
