OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Formulating Tough Materials from photopolymer compositions based on Urethane Acrylates" Presenter: Arthur Kassardjian of IGM Resins Venue: Webinar Date: Wednesday 27th November 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/es9qn4k3 Abstract: The shift from rapid prototyping to durable good manufacture via 3D printing has steadily increased the performance demands of photopolymerizable compositions. Herein experimental data for the cured properties of formulations based on urethane acrylate oligomers is shown. Tensile mechanical properties, glass transition temperature, water absorption and cure-induced shrinkage values are related back to the urethane acrylate structure, diluent level, and diluent type used in the test formula. The results are very useful for formulators from many different industrial applications, beyond just additive manufacturing. #resins #uvcure #urethane #acrylates #3dprinting #inks #photopolymers #prepolymers #monomers OIL & COLOUR CHEMISTS' ASSOCIATION IGM Resins

OCCA Weekly Webinar:"Sustainable thickener solutions for aqueous decorative paint and coating formulations" Presenter: Udo Schonhoff of Elementis Global Venue: Zoom Webinar Date: Wednesday 20th November 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/ezA_snM9 Abstract: Sustainable rheology modifiers based on polyurethane technology, known as NiSAT products, offer innovative solutions for the paint and coatings industry. While traditional NiSAT thickeners are available in liquid form with an active ingredient content of about 20-50%, these products are also available as powders with 100% active ingredient content. These powder products are significantly more effective in terms of active content and greatly reduce transport and storage volumes. The latest developments in this product group are based on up to 90% renewable resources, significantly enhancing their sustainability. These sustainable rheology additives help improve the environmental footprint without compromising performance in various end systems. With these approaches, Elementis offers forward-looking alternatives to conventional additives, supporting the industry in becoming more environmentally conscious. OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Insulation Without Corrosion" Presenter: Markus Hallack of Evonik. Venue: Webinar Date: Wednesday 13th November 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/eYGqnREC Abstract: Thermal management coatings play a crucial role in protecting industrial equipment from high temperatures and corrosion. Corrosion under insulation (CUI) is a significant problem that can occur when insulation materials are used to protect equipment from heat. Coatings based on TEGO Therm granules and binders as a thermal managing coating can be used to prevent CUI and protect equipment from high temperatures. Coatings based on SILIKOPHEN AC are designed for high-temperature applications. It is a silicone resin-based coating that can resist temperatures up to 650°C and provides excellent protection against corrosion and oxidation. Both TEGO Therm and SILIKOPHEN are ideal for use in various industries such as petrochemical, power generation, and refining. These coatings offer excellent thermal protection and can significantly extend the service life of equipment by preventing corrosion and other forms of damage caused by high temperatures. OCCA Weekly Webinars: "Replacing Tin-based Catalysts without Compromising Performance in Polyurethane Coatings" Presenter: Sebastian Dziki of Borchers Venue: Zoom Webinar Date: Wednesday 6th November 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Registration: https://lnkd.in/ec22ircd Abstract: Polyurethane coatings are one of the most important technologies in the industrial coatings market. Due to their excellent durability, they are widely used in protective and marine and metal applications. For many years, tin-based catalysts such as dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL) were commonly used as crosslinkers in polyurethane reactions. Crosslinking adds benefits to polyurethane coatings that include faster dry times, increased hardness, durability, abrasion resistance, and water and solvent resistance. While a catalyst provides many benefits, it can sometimes negatively impact other performance properties such as pot life. Following market trends and regulatory pressures in Europe, this presentation will address how Borchers: A Milliken Brand catalyst technology can help replace tin-based catalysts without compromising performance in polyurethane coatings. Furthermore, the presented data will highlight how common issues such as short pot life and slow drying times can be resolved.

OCCA Weekly Webinar: "Eco-friendly crosslinking technology for water borne coating systems with reduced emissions" Presenter: Andreas Hermes of allnex Germany GmbH Venue: Webinar Date: Wednesday 16th October 2024 Time: 14:30 – 15:30 Register: https://lnkd.in/e2d2v2Y6 Abstract: The coating industry has long relied on various crosslinking technologies, such as amino or phenol formaldehyde and isocyanates, known for their functionality and performance. However, increasing regulatory hurdles and critical labelling of resins necessitate enhanced protection for employees handling these hazardous substances. ALLNEX has pioneered the development of a formaldehyde- and isocyanate-free technology that matches the exceptional properties of traditional melamine-formaldehyde resins, including superior UV stability, high chemical resistance and excellent surface finish. Historically, such advances products were only available for solvent based systems. ALLNEX has now successfully adapted this technology for aqueous coating systems. Our innovative product, CYMEL° NF 2264/87 WA is a formaldehyde-free melamine resin with high solids, low solvent content and balanced properties suitable for a wide range of applications.
