Small specialists and solo GPs seem to be all the rage now! But Pitchbook data shows that between 2015-2020 that small specialist VCs with under £250mn aum provided IRRs of over 27% which is inline with the median IRR of large generalist funds.

New government legislation coming into place this January will raise the sophisticated investor income threshold from £100k to £172k. Some would argue that the revision is overdue, but it's sudden and drastic nature will ripple across the investment space. It means that nearly 70% of current eligible angel investors and investors on crowdfunding, syndication and similar platforms will no longer be able to participate in the private markets and startup investing. Whats more, this disproportionately impacts women and will have an outsized effect on female founders and female led companies and VCs (see image below). This funding will need new avenues to be directed through, and OSV is well positioned to help.
