Oncology Professional Care at ExCeL London was a great hit! We brought one of our state-of-the-art mobile cancer care units for attendees to tour and experience up close. While attendees visited and met our team on the unit, they could also find out key information on board – thanks to LiveSpace digital signage and the screens used to display engaging visuals and information to the audience at the event. We had one screen on the unit - which is fixed onboard in the treatment area and another was placed on a stand in our booth, directing delegates to our team and mobile unit to ensure they didn’t miss out! A big thanks to MRG Systems Ltd for loaning us the stand for our screen in the booth. Beyond this event, with the LiveSpace technology from MRG Systems Ltd, we are now able to connect with patients on board our units in ways that we couldn’t before. Our screens have become an invaluable tool for the charity and enhance the experience on board our units for those who visit them. Plus, we’re able to seamlessly manage content across all our unit screens nationwide – right from our head office in Stonehouse! Last week, Future Dreams attended Oncology Professional Care 2024 at ExCeL London. The event encompasses all professional groups, is designed to meet their educational needs, and offers the opportunity to network with colleagues and explore a major exhibition. Jackie, our Future Dreams' Clinical Breast Care Nurse Specialist, said: "It was great to connect with many allied healthcare professionals as well as nursing staff who support breast cancer patients. Many had heard of Future Dreams but it was a great way to connect on a professional level to explain what we offer at Future Dreams and how we support those affected by breast cancer collectively." Last week, I had the honour of speaking at the Oncology Professional Care Conference held at the ExCeL London. In 2015, a family member was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 36. Subsequent testing revealed that several members of the family, including the affected individual, have a rare hereditary cancer syndrome. I was privileged to discuss this topic alongside four other speakers in the Keynote Theatre at the Excel. The Personal accounts from the St. Mark's Hospital's 'Polyposis and Lynch Enrichment Team' PPI group, highlighted the journey of living with an inherited colorectal cancer syndrome, the psychological impact, and the critical role of self-advocacy. The dissemination of knowledge is crucial, and I am hopeful that the attending clinicians gained a deeper understanding of these rare conditions and the importance of recognising that cancer can be diagnosed at any age. Key Takeaways: 1 PPI Misconceptions: Addressing common misconceptions about Patient and Public Involvement (PPI), with an emphasis on including diverse patient groups. 2 PPI Patient Partnerships: Shifting from research conducted "for" patients to research conducted "with" patients, fostering true collaboration. 3. Communication: Emphasising the importance of clear, compassionate communication in healthcare, with key areas for improvement: · Providing timely screening results · Enhancing psychological support services · Avoiding dismissive remarks like “you are too young to have cancer” · Properly investigating new symptoms · Recognising that cancer affects the entire family · Listening more attentively to improve healthcare outcomes These insights highlight the importance of giving patients a voice and putting patients at the forefront of everything healthcare professionals do. My colleague, Caroline Clark, the Cancer Services Manager at KIMS Hospital, also attended the event and participated in 12 lectures over the two days. The staff at KIMS Hospital are committed to continuous learning and seeking new information, which is essential for patient safety and care. I would like to thank Laura Monje-Garcia, (National Lead Nurse for the Lynch Syndrome Project, Nurse Practitioner, and Research Fellow) for inviting me to speak, and to the Polyposis Registry at St. Mark's Hospital for keeping my entire family safe with regular surveillance. Thank you to Alexander C. from Closer Still Media, for the great organisation. Having managed similar events myself, I know how much work goes into this type of event. #ScreeningSavesLives #Oncology #CancerCare #PatientSafety #PatientCare #OncologyCare #PublicSpeaking #CPD Vicky Cuthill St Mark's Bowel Cancer Screening Centre

That's a wrap for Oncology Professional Care 2024! What a fantastic event it was, and we're thrilled to have been a part of it. We had some brilliant conversations with oncology healthcare professionals and experts over the past two days and look forward to following up on those discussions in the coming weeks. It was also a pleasure to meet with various charities to discuss how we can collaborate to raise awareness, improve access to proton beam therapy, and better support those undergoing treatment. Here are a few highlights from our conversations yesterday: ➡ An engaging discussion with Susannah Ramsay from Prostate Cancer Research about Infopool, the patient resource platform. ➡ Chatting with Andrew Gabriel from the Prostate Cancer Awareness Support Group. ➡ Meeting the team from The Swallows Charity Head and Neck Support Group. ➡ A great conversation with Emma Kinloch, Founder of Salivary Gland Cancer UK, who participated in a fascinating panel discussion on diagnosis, treatments, and outcomes for people diagnosed with these rare cancers. We very much look forward to returning next year! #OPC24 #OncologyProfessionalCare #ProtonBeamtTherapy

A big thank you to the team Oncology Professional Care for organising a fantastic event, and to everyone who visited our stand to speak to the team! 🌟 We all know someone who has been affected by cancer, so it was very inspiring to witness the oncology community come together to explore new ways to improve patient care and treatment. Including focusing on issues that are sometimes overlooked, such as long-term effects of treatment, health disparities, and mental health and well-being. For us, this event was a great opportunity to showcase Pathpoint Oncology, our novel digital cancer management system. Gaining insights directly from those on the frontlines of care is invaluable, driving us to continually refine our platform to empower clinicians in delivering the best possible care for their patients. Wow, what a conference. Delivering three sessions at Oncology Professional Care this year felt like a breeze thanks to my amazing co-presenters and theatre hosts: On Tuesday, I gave a session on safe and #inclusive #prescribing in trans patients w/ Shereen Nabhani-Gebara and Mariachiara D'Elia for BOPA (The British Oncology Pharmacy Association) - if you missed this one, fear not! We'll be doing a similar webinar very soon to launch our new document on this topic... On Wednesday morning, I kicked things off as the first session of the day discussing #SexualWellbeing with Dr Hannah Tharmalingam and Dr. Isabel White on the #LivingWithAndBeyond theatre, hosted by Anthony Cunliffe. I was blown away by how many people were in attendance to talk about the 'in and outs' of sex and #cancer so early in the morning. Finally, I rounded out the hat-trick with the amazing Naman Julka-Anderson and Jo McNamara at their Rad Chat theatre discussing #LGBTIQ+ inclusion in #diagnostic and #therapeutic #radiography. Amazing session with a fantastic audience. I even stuck around afterwards to help Lynn Buckley hand out sex toys to the audience for her talk on sexual consequences of #radiotherapy. A real bonding experience for the crowd! And finally, a thank you goes out to the event team at CloserStill Media for helping it all come together. I'm already looking forward to next year. #OPC24
