The tech behind an astronaut’s eye health at the International Space Station ☄️ Our Ambassador Ethan’s groundbreaking research found that 75% of astronauts who go to space experience eye-light changes due to a condition called Spaceflight Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS). He is an Academic Foundation Programme Doctor at the University of Cambridge and a member of NASA’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Working Group and aims to improve quality of life through vision research and clinical ophthalmology. 📲 Now, Ethan is using his innovation, research, and generative AI to help detect and monitor eye disease progression at home through an app called AngioGenius. A simple photo of the eye can be turned into another imaging type that provides more rich data, allowing for the detection and monitoring of eye disease at home. Do young people have a say in what happens at the United Nations? 🌟 As the youngest senior appointed in the United Nations' history, Dr Felipe Paullier Olivera is a shining example of how vital young people's voices are in shaping our world's future. 📣 In his role as Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Dr Felipe leads collaborations between young people and the UN, ensuring that the voices of young leaders are heard in decision-making spaces. “The future we want; a future of peace, sustainability, and shared prosperity, is not going to build itself. It’s up to us.” Find out how much progress the UN has made in engaging young people in decision-making processes by reading our analysis of the UN Youth2030 Progress Report 2024: https://bit.ly/4eOTxRV. #Inclusion #YounthLeadership #Sustainability #UnitedNations #Policy

Tech for change: this first of its kind platform has changed over 12,000 lives 📱 Brazil is home to over 200,000 refugees from around the world, who lack access to education. Our Ambassador Bruna founded Toti Diversidade, the first platform for teaching and including refugees and migrants in the technology market. Founded in 2018, Toti has trained over 1,200 people in data analysis, tech support and coding skills. The organisation is now helping people across 21 states, and 140 municipalities, and supports 42 nationalities across Brazil. It has partnered with the UN Agency for Migration and Toyota Foundation to support its graduates, spread awareness and accelerate their impact. The organisation is empowering refugees and migrants in Brazil with opportunities to develop tech skills and helping corporates with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) requirements. As a part of their commitment to diversity and inclusion, Toti is helping corporates recruit refugee and immigrant talent and helping them integrate a more inclusive culture. 🔗Learn more about her work here: https://bit.ly/3V3ncjq #Education #Brazil #Inclusivity #OYWAmbassador #OneYoungWorld

Struggling to find a match for your professional ambition? We were thrilled to have Braindate by e180 at the One Young World Summit Montréal/Tiohtià:ke in September. Braindate facilitates intellectual connections by helping people match with others who are interested in the same topics or initiatives as them at events. The unique concept fostered knowledge-sharing and collaboration among our delegates. At #OYW24, they created a lounge where young leaders choose to have one-on-one conversations or join discussions that interest them. They had the chance to connect with like-minded individuals and engage in meaningful conversations that will help them to grow their network, and drive positive change. Tell us who your ideal Braindate would be? 🔗 Learn more about Braindate: https://bit.ly/4fWuMUV #OneYoungWorld #Braindate #Leadership #Innovation #Networking #OYW24

The ecofeminist using infographics to save Lake Chad. 📊 Adenike Oladosu is fighting to save Lake Chad through her organisation, I Lead Climate Action. 40 million people depend on Lake Chad for commercial and agricultural purposes, however, it has shrunk by 90% in 60 years due to climate change. By analysing Lake Chad using a satellite sensing system, and distributing infographics of her findings, Adenike has warned 2.5 million people about the drastic changes to the lake and the early signs of drought. “Becoming an activist was never a choice for me. It is a necessity. But I am not only an environmental activist, I am an ecofeminist.” Watch Adenike’s speech from #OYW24 to learn more about her plight to save Lake Chad: https://bit.ly/4fwjyGL #OYW24 #LakeChad #Environment #Ecofeminist #ClimateChange

This organisation is creating equity in Japan through skills development 🇯🇵 Our incredible Ambassador, Emre Caglar founded Youth For Future (YFF) in 2021 with a mission to uplift children in orphanages across Japan by fostering their self-discovery, resilience, and independence. Today, over 30,000 children in Japan reside in 600 orphanages. Emre’s vision is to equip these young people with the skills and confidence to shape their futures. After working closely with these children for two years, Emre noticed that they often aspired to become teachers or social workers, as these were the adults they interacted with the most. So in 2024, he launched the Global Identity Program (GIP), designed to introduce new career pathways through self-exploration, talent discovery, and skills development. Leveraging Japan's rapidly evolving multicultural society and technological advancements, GIP invites leaders of different sectors to deliver transformative workshops and host spring and summer camps, weekly classes, and bi-monthly events. By creating spaces for learning and growth, Emre is expanding what’s possible for these young minds. Hana-Rāwhiti Maipi-Clarke is making Indigenous voices heard in New Zealand's parliament and across the world. 📣 Recipient of our Politician of the Year Award 2024 and the youngest MP in New Zealand since 1853, Hana recently went viral when she ripped up a copy of New Zealand's controversial Indigenous Treaty Principles Bill before performing the traditional Māori war dance, the Haka, in parliament. Since being appointed to New Zealand's parliament in 2023, Hana has been dedicated to protecting Māori rights and culture, ensuring that the voices of her community do not go unheard. Speaking at #OYW24 she reminded all Indigenous young leaders: “If our ancestors navigated the biggest ocean, we can navigate anything.” Tag a leader in the comments who is standing up for their community! #IndigenousRights #Politician #PoliticianOfTheYear #OYW #Māori
