  • This week marks Road Safety Week, and along with it has come rain, wind, ice, and snow—conditions that make our roads even more dangerous. Every year, over 1,700 lives are tragically lost on UK roads, with another 30,000 suffering serious, life-changing injuries. These statistics serve as a poignant reminder of why road safety is paramount. The last 18 months have been the wettest on record, placing unprecedented strain on the UK’s flood defences, which are now at their most vulnerable in years. In the first four months of 2024 alone, we saw over 4,850 flood alerts issued, a record-breaking figure that highlights the need for proactive and effective flood response to keep our roads safe. Flooding disrupts lives, limits emergency access, and poses a real hazard to everyone on the road. At Causeway, we have seen the impact of the floods first-hand. Through our Live Link app, local authorities have issued over 450 road closures due to flooding this year, helping to communicate critical, real-time updates to keep drivers safe. Derbyshire County Council in particular stands as a shining example of proactive flood management and communication, working tirelessly to protect the public and maintain road safety. As we navigate these challenges, Causeway remains dedicated to supporting safer roads for everyone. • Building better roads for the greater good is a shared goal, but achieving it isn’t easy! 🚧 While infrastructure projects aim to enhance productivity and reduce waste, we face challenges like public perception, a skills gap, and ineffective collaboration. It’s time for a transformation in our working culture—within the sector and with the communities we serve. Regulations often complicate communication between local authorities and utilities, leading to cumbersome processes and delays. If we streamline these interactions and embrace technology, we can enable precise communication and efficient decision-making. We need a variety of smart tools and a shift in mindset to foster true collaboration. By adopting digital collaboration tools and viewing regulations as a foundation for joint decision-making, we can pave the way to a more efficient future in infrastructure 🛣️ ⚡ 💡 Download The Road Ahead Report to discover the critical steps needed to turn this vision into a reality: https://lnkd.in/e__Ve_mx #Infrastructure #Collaboration #Innovation #SmartCities #TheRoadAhead #LocalGov
