It aims to improve the availability and use of beneficial ownership data in the following partner countries: Argentina, Armenia, Ghana, Indonesia, Liberia, Mongolia, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, and Zambia. Starting of #RightsCon25 in Taipei with a satellite event, the Taiwan Business and Human Rights Forum. Good to hear Business & Human Rights Resource Centre mention the ongoing threats to garment workers' right to Freedom of Association right in the opening session. Later in the week, I'll be holding a session on behalf of Clean Clothes Campaign, together with Aureliane Frohlich of Wikirate and moderated by Emily Manuel of Open Ownership on how we can leverage more data to hold companies accountable and strengthen worker rights in global supply chains.

This week, United Nations Member States are discussing the Outcome Document Zero Draft for the 4th Financing for Development (#FfD4) Conference. Why is this important? Globally, governments lose a staggering $492 billion a year to tax abuse, according to recent research from Tax Justice Network. The #FfD4 process provides an opportunity to reduce losses through #TaxAbuse, and advance the potential of #BeneficialOwnership #transparency. We celebrate many elements of the Zero Draft, to which we had the opportunity to contribute (link below). #FfD4 Zero Draft positives: 🔀Recognises #corruption as a cross-cutting issue that hinders development; 📜Commits to fully implementing the UN Convention Against Corruption (#UNCAC); 🔍Supports an effective UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism (IRM) 💰 Retains references to fighting illicit financial flows (#IFFs), including commitments to regulate professional service providers; 🌐Proposes to establish UN #ECOSOC special meetings to address financial integrity and international tax cooperation efforts; and 🧑🏫Enhances asset recovery through international cooperation and capacity building via pilot initiatives. But there are ways in which the #FfD4 Outcome Document Zero Draft can be strengthened: 🗒️Strengthening #BeneficialOwnership commitments to set up high-quality domestic registers with standardised and up-to-date information, and make data available to a broad range of actors; 🤝 Enhance tax cooperation through stronger #BeneficialOwnership data-sharing mechanisms with domestic and foreign authorities where tax authorities have access to reliable, updated and accurate beneficial ownership information; and 🪟Uphold transparent intergovernmental negotiations, and ensure inclusive engagement of civil society in the #FfD4 process.
