What a great way to end the week! We are thrilled that we were able to help facilitate this initiative between the Forest Conservation Fund and the student teams from University of Southampton who rose to the challenge resulting in tangible, innovative, and meaningful outputs and recommendations that will benefit the world around us. Win, Win, Win! https://lnkd.in/g7AcHtTe
Collaboration is a cornerstone of our approach, connecting companies with Indigenous and local community-led rainforest conservation projects in threatened sourcing landscapes. We were therefore so pleased when one of our donors, Openshaw & Co. Tim Beere introduced us to the University of Southampton Student Innovation Project initiative. In this initiative, two teams of students examine a specific business challenge and, by collaborating as a team, recommend potential solutions. FCF was selected to provide a challenge. This month, the two teams shared their reports on how we can better leverage technology to coordinate receiving and managing the wealth of biodiversity data from our twelve projects worldwide. This is important as we further develop our metrics for individual projects and the FCF portfolio. We so enjoyed engaging with both teams of students, who were professional, well organised, and demonstrated their important life skills working as a team. This included problem-solving, critical thinking, research, presentation and report writing, and understanding of the constraints of our budget and application by rainforest communities in remote locations. Both teams have provided valuable recommendations on cost-effective technology solutions, and we are exploring which elements to adopt based on a pilot with two of our projects. As a small non-profit that passes on 80% of all income directly to our community-led rainforest projects, our operational budget is limited, and we are looking forward to sharing how the student collaboration will benefit FCF shortly. We hope the students keep in touch and wish them all the best for what we are sure will be a fulfilling and happy future. Team Openshaw & Co. spent the day in Southampton at Venturefest South today, and what a fabulous event! The place was a hive of activity, with loads of really interesting discussions, keynotes, engagement, and great advice. It was also wonderful to meet many people face to face for the first time, but also those more familiar including our clients. Special thanks go to James Brown from Supersense Technologies for making the journey from Cambridge to share their experiences and for supporting the IP session with Andrew Heap. For anyone interested in Dementia care innovation, be sure to check them out. Big thanks to our Venturefest South partners including Blake Morgan LLP, The FSE Group, British Business Bank, University of Southampton, University of Portsmouth, and Carswell Gould for the collective effort of making this such a great event. Lastly, a big shout out to our Dominic Clacy, Andrew Heap, Hassan Malik, and Alison Alexander for being IP superstars and doing us proud. Thank you! #teamopenshaw
