More than 180 solar panels on the roof of York Minster have been switched on during a blessing ceremony. The panels on the South Quire roof are expected to generate 70,000 kWh of energy, providing a third of the minster's electricity requirements. It's the fourth solar installation on the minster estate, which together will generate 120,000 kWh per year, enough to power 41 average UK homes. #NetZero #GreenInvestment #GreenEnergy https://lnkd.in/eB4HTThC

The end of North Sea oil and gas production will lead to companies abruptly abandoning the basin, leaving communities and the state to deal with the social and economic consequences according to a new report. If annual production continues at 2023 levels, North Sea reserves will run out in under 14 years, with smaller, private equity players increasingly taking over as big companies pull out, leaving taxpayers with at least a £10.8bn bill to decommission rigs. #JustTransition #GreenInvestment https://lnkd.in/eaXVHidX

'Net zero transport changes are forecast to pay for themselves through lower costs over the life cycle, with greenhouse gas and air pollution benefits improving things further. Work is underway to create Europe's largest battery storage project, which is being built on the site of a former coal mine. Developers say the two huge neighbouring battery farms in South Lanarkshire will store enough electricity to power three million homes. Battery Energy Storage Systems are being built across the UK to help balance the electricity grid, which is becoming increasingly powered by renewables. #GreenInvestment https://lnkd.in/d3UX-b5T

Wind provided more electricity than ever last year as the UK moved further away from planet-warming fossil fuels. The UK government wants less than 5% of its electricity to come from polluting fossil fuels by 2030. In 2024, non-fossil fuel sources generated around 56% of Great Britain's electricity – a new high – while fossil fuel generation (mainly gas) fell to 26%, with a further 16% coming from imported electricity. #GreenInvestment #GreenEnergy https://lnkd.in/eUhAXN52

Analysis indicates rising sea levels driven by the climate crisis will overwhelm many of the world’s biggest oil ports, including ones in the US, China, the UAE, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia. Lloyds Bank misled consumers by advertising its steps to reduce its carbon footprint while neglecting to mention its 'significant' financing of fossil fuel companies, a watchdog has ruled. The bank’s LinkedIn post in May claimed Lloyds was 'putting the weight of our finance into clean and renewable energy' but failed to mention that the bank was financing the equivalent of tens of millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents. #StopFundingFossilFuels #BankingOnClimateChaos #Greenwashing https://lnkd.in/eJ6mB4iq
