Ormiston Park officially opened as an Academy in September 2009, replacing its predecessor school the Belhus Chase Specialist Humanities College. It is an 11-19 mixed academy, sponsored by the Ormiston Academies Trust, and specialises in the provision of English and Literacy, and Creative and Cultural Skills.
In November 2011 Ofsted graded the Academy as Good, with many outstanding features. We are very proud that inspectors commended the efforts of our students and recognised the exemplary care, guidance and support offered by our staff.
Students and staff moved into a new £16 million building in November 2013 and this exciting project is nearing completion, with the external landscaping, sports areas and parking due to be completed in October 2014.
Ormiston Park Academy holds both Healthy School and International School status, and has been granted a British Council Platinum award for its work in Connecting Classrooms. It is an Edward de Bono Thinking School, with Trainer status, a Student Engagement Trust demonstration site and provides a lead in Continuing Professional Development as part of the Thurrock Teaching School Alliance. It has recently been granted Investors in People status.
The Academy has a growing Sixth Form of approximately 100 students and offers a range of level 3 vocational courses alongside a full range of planned work experience, leisure and recreation opportunities, and supported individual study. In addition, students are able to undertake A levels in the core subjects and access a wide range of courses made available through a strategic partnership with South Essex College. Where appropriate students can continue studying GCSE English and Mathematics alongside other Level 2 programmes.
