The quest for net zero on an epic scale – developing one of the largest floating offshore wind farms in the world

About us

Ossian (pronounced ‘os-si-un’) from The Poems of Ossian is a proposed offshore wind farm located in waters off the east coast of Scotland. On completion it will be one of the largest floating offshore wind farms in the world, producing up to 3.6GW of renewable energy – enough to power up to 6 million* homes annually. Occupying 858km² of seabed 84km off the east coast of Scotland, Ossian is one of the largest lease areas to be offered by Crown Estate Scotland to any bidder in the ScotWind leasing round. Ossian represents a new tradition in power generation. Its scale and floating technology make it a game changer in the UK renewable energy sector and a critical driving force behind our journey to net zero. It will offset up to 7.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year and will provide a significant proportion of the renewable energy capacity we need to meet Scottish and UK government ambitions. Ossian is a joint venture between: o SSE Renewables Limited - a leading developer, owner and operator of renewable energy projects and assets across the UK and Ireland o Marubeni Corporation - a Japanese integrated trading and investment business with extensive interests in power generation and renewable energy o Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners - a fund management company specialising in tailor-made investments in energy infrastructure assets globally within the renewables and greenfield sectors This powerful partnership brings together the extensive local knowledge, world leading technology and global expertise needed to deliver significant and enduring social, economic and decarbonisation benefits. * Based on Typical Domestic Consumption Values (Medium Electricity Profile Class 1, 2,900kWh/household; OFGEM, Jun 2021), typical 50% projected wind load factor, projected installed capacity of 3,600MW. 7.5m tonnes of CO2 reductions/annum based on expected annual output against average 440 tonnes CO2 per GWh for all non-renewable fuels, Aug 2021
