Volunteer Profile: Meet Jen! Our lovely Jen started volunteering with us in 2018. Jen had previously studied on animal courses, so she was keen to put the skills she had learnt into practice. Throughout her time as a small animals volunteer, Jen has been able to keep developing her skills by caring for a variety of our farm residents, whether they’re fluffy, feathered or scaly. 🐹 🦜 Since volunteering at the farm, Jen has also developed her customer service skills, from working in our café and then our farm shop. She gained more experience in handling money, stock taking and leading customer service workshops for our adult placements. You’ll often find Jen in our shop, ready to greet customers with her sunny presence! We asked Jen what her favourite memory of volunteering at the farm was, and she said: “I love Christmas time at the farm, and the annual pantomime is my absolute favourite. I love seeing the placements performing, dancing, singing and telling stories.” When she’s not volunteering at the farm, Jen loves to meet up with her friends and take her dog Buddy on lots of walks. We’ve had a lovely first week of December down at the farm! We have lots of brilliant volunteers who commit so much of their time to our animals, people and land, so we’ve really enjoyed partaking in some festivities with them. 🎄 They took part in Christmas Wreath Making led by Jenny, our Fundraising and Comms lead (and art aficionado!) Our placements have been very busy in their carpentry and art workshops this term! Swipe to see Craig, Ben, Peter and Ami’s excellent creations. 🪵🎨 We love their woodwork pieces especially, and they are able to create these due to the expert guidance from our workshop tutor, David Gross. We can access this workshop space thanks to our parent company Tyne Housing it’s a lovely way to work with them! David is a sculptor and also runs carpentry and art workshops with Tyne Housing residents. These photos were taken by David C, who supports our placements throughout their workshops, therefore helping them to continue thriving at the farm! Thank you, David! They are the perfect gift to support Ouseburn Farm this Christmas! 🐝 🎁 Our usual price for a Bee Sponsorship is £50, but in this wonderful gift bag, for just £50 you will also receive a delicious jar of Ouseburn Farm honey (£8.95), a honey drizzler and a beeswax food wrap made in-house using 100% Ouseburn Farm beeswax! Don't forget to give your gift recipient’s name to our shop staff for the certificate, and their name will also be printed onto a bee and installed for all to see on our Bee Wall in the farm café. Our film here shows the detailed process of how the wax wraps were made. Just like cling film, the wrap can be used for sandwiches, bowls and snacks, but the wraps are reusable and eco-friendly. They mould around and adhere to surfaces, and the warmth of your hands makes the wrap pliable and adhesive. You can clean after each use with cold/cool water, a sponge and a little washing up liquid, then hang over a rack to air-dry.
