Our mission is to empower, educate and connect women seeking a career in finance at the University of Oxford

About us

Founded in 2018, Oxford Women in Finance (OxWIF) is a student society at the University of Oxford which aims to empower women seeking a career in finance by improving application transparency and connecting them with current industry professionals. Our commitment to empowering women in finance goes beyond providing resources and networking opportunities. We actively strive to break down barriers and challenge stereotypes that may deter women from pursuing finance-related careers.   We organize various events, workshops, and networking sessions that enable our members to gain valuable insights, develop crucial skills, and establish connections with mentors and peers who share their passion for finance. By fostering an atmosphere of support, education, and empowerment, we aim to empower the next generation of female leaders in finance and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive industry.   Join us in our mission to break the glass ceiling and redefine the future of finance. Whether you are a student aspiring to enter the world of finance or an industry professional looking to make a positive impact, OxWIF welcomes you to be a part of our vibrant community. Together, we can create lasting change and inspire a new generation of women to excel in finance.

Updates

  • Yesterday, we had the privilege of spending an evening with Sarah Simon, an Oxford alumna and Managing Director at Morgan Stanley, where she leads the European Consumer Staples division. Sarah’s story was truly inspiring—from her time at Oxford studying Classics to her transition into finance and her remarkable 25-year career in the industry. With 13 years at Morgan Stanley and 12 years at Berenberg Bank, she shared invaluable insights into the skills and mindset needed to thrive in the field. Attendees left with a deeper understanding of the industry and the intricacies of equity research. A key takeaway from the discussion was that career paths are rarely linear—rather, they can be dynamic, unexpected, and full of exciting opportunities. We are extremely grateful for her time, and the knowledge shared. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events!

  • On behalf of all our members, the OxWIF committee would like to say a huge thank you to our three wonderful panellists who spoke at our Women in Private Equity event last week: Caroline Woodworth (MD of General Atlantic)and Sara Johnsen (Analyst at Neuberger Berman). The enthusiasm that you expressed for PE, as well as hearing about your experience and time within the field really allowed those who attended to gather a better understanding on PE careers! 💙

  • Last week we had the pleasure of hosting Financial Edge for our first workshop of the term! The session was led by Maria Weber and focussed on explaining a few different valuation techniques as well as enterprise value, equity value and how to cross the bridge between them. The class wrapped up with some collaborative work on calculating multiples and a discussion of practical examples. We would like to thank Maria for her excellent contribution to OxWIF and making the event such a success. All of our members thoroughly enjoyed the session and learnt a lot from it.

  • The OxWIF committee would like to extend their thanks to everyone who attended our first event of term! Last Monday, Abigail Forsyth OAM, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of KeepCup, joined us all the way from Melbourne to discuss her insights on the world of sustainable entrepreneurship. As a leader in this space, it was fascinating hearing about her experiences and we wish her all the best in her journey with KeepCup! We look forward to hosting our second event of the term tomorrow: a valuations workshop with Financial Edge.
