📊📰#SeenNotHeard A 2016 study by Jia et al. analyzed 2.3 million articles from 950 news outlets and found significant #genderimbalances in #mediacoverage. Men are featured in 250% more articles than women, who also appear 21% less in headlines. With only 33% of all people shown in news images being women, women are more likely to be shown in an image, rather than spoken about in text. In terms of coverage: - The politics and business sections are 80% male-dominated. - Women are more present in entertainment and fashion articles. - Only 9% (!) of images in economic news show women. #GenderRepresentation #MediaBalance #WomenInNews #VisibilityMatters

Why #researchers are part of our network? There are many reasons, but THIS ⬇ is definitely one of them 😊 ⚗
𝐎𝐧𝐞-𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧. 22% of unicorn founders led their previous companies as CEOs, and 9% as CTOs. The other three most common specializations are: • Engineers (21%) • Software engineers (17%) • Product managers (14%) All 10 of the most common specializations of unicorn founders-to-be are related to leadership, technological proficiency, or marketing. Note: For this post, we analyzed 2,721 founders of US-based, VC-backed unicorns. For 2,510 of them, we found all of their positions in the places where they worked prior to founding a unicorn and grouped the positions by specialization. For example: "researcher," “professor,” and “chief scientific officer” were categorized as "Scientist/R&D/Technology." What do you think is the best way to learn these skills? Please share your thoughts in the comments section.
