Ten years ago, a visionary had an idea. Ten years ago, our founder, Andrew Hulbert, sat in his bedroom and began to set out a plan for a new kind of FM business. One that put people at the heart of everything. That would lead the industry through its positive social impact. Ten years on and together, our team has built a business with strong technical delivery, innovative solutions, and quality client service. But it's a business that never lost its heart. We are still driven by our social values. And it's been our greatest strength. Because for us, Pareto is about more than just FM. It's about every person connected with our business. As Pareto moves to its next phase, that won't change. Throughout December, we'll be sharing some of Andrew's moments of gratitude over the past 10 years. We hope these spark some joy for you in the run up to Christmas.

Is Net Zero achievable? ESG is core to how we do business at Pareto. And our commitment to reaching Net Zero is one we're really proud of. We've started our journey towards carbon neutrality, and aim to be one of the first net zero providers in the industry. But our commitment stretches beyond that. Over the next few years, as we journey towards net zero, we're going to be reaching far across our industry to collaborate with others to come up with solutions to our ESG issues. We want to inspire and support consultants, clients, and competitors alike to work together and have open and productive conversations about how we can shape a better future. Last night, our Networking for Change event kicked off this activity with an evening for our consultants to consider some of the broad topics - from how to support our clients to reach their sustainability goals to what we can do to create more diversity and inclusion in the spaces in which we work. It was a fantastic example of how we can reach right across the industry and use our collective knowledge and experience to find solutions to our challenges. No greenwashing, no box ticking. Authentic action. Together.

When we say ESG matters to us, those aren't empty words. We’re proud to announce that we have achieved our first year of Planet Mark Business Certification for reporting year 2022-2023. We are committed to cutting our measured footprint annually. Planet Mark is a leading carbon reduction and net zero specialist. With over ten years of experience, Planet Mark is committed to helping businesses of all sizes find unified solutions to reduce carbon emissions, secure net zero targets, generate long-term business value and deliver meaningful climate action. Achieving Business Certification is the best first step to take on the transition towards net zero. Planet Mark Members must achieve annual 5% reductions in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and measure some Scope 3 emissions that are within direct operational control (e.g., Business Travel and Waste). We look forward to expanding our measurement remit to take strides towards net zero at a critical time for our planet. We are focused on continuous improvement and are proud to be a Planet Mark Certified Business.

What does it mean to be a disability confident committed employer? It means taking seriously our responsibilty to create a workplace that makes it possible for everyone to thrive. We've never paid lip service to inclusion. We know that creating a truly inclusive working environment means making changes and accomodations to ensure our environment works for others, including those who are disabled. We know that every member of staff here at Pareto makes our team stronger, and that the diversity found in our workforce is key to our success. So when we decided to become a disability confident committed employer, it was an acknowledgement of our commitment to challenge the bias and misconceptions around disability at work, and create new pathways to working with us. The result? A stronger, more talented team, and a better understanding of how to serve our clients to meet their diversity, equity and inclusion goals. This Disability History Month is focused on Disability, Livelihood, and Employment. The WFM sector needs to become leaders in disability employment. So often we are involved in setting workplace strategy at the highest levels - we are perfectly placed to influence how workplaces can become more disability friendly. At Pareto, we want to lead the way - both for WFM and for our clients - to making work more accessible for our disabled colleagues.

Does FM need a makeover? Over the past 5 years, the Facilities Management industry has been catapulted into the spotlight, and we've been proud to be a part of creating a new face for FM. We put our people at the front and centre of what we do, to show that FM is a human-centric sector, and to create a place where all people can thrive and flourish in their careers. Tomorrow Meets Today is an event to support the next generation of FM professionals by bringing them together with industry leaders for networking, mentorship and growth. We're looking forward to welcoming the industry's future leaders tomorrow at The Leadenhall Building, and we're excited by the new ideas, the diversity, and the passion that they bring to the table with them. If FM needs a makeover, these are the people to do it.

Do you have a plan for when things go wrong? Carrying out Black Building Testing is mission-critical for business continuity. Understanding the procedure and knowing that the right backups are in place and ready to perform in the event of a power failure is crucial to ensuring a seamless service. So, when a large commercial facility in the Northwest approached us and asked if we could support them with their IST Black Building Testing, we were happy to help. Carrying out work like this is no mean feat. It requires meticulous planning – especially when there’s such a small window for the shut down (in this case, just 12 hours). We needed to make sure we could stimulate a total power failure, schedule all the maintenance tests and activities within that window, and ensure we had contingency plans for any unexpected issues. But our team once again proved their technical excellence, delivering the project perfectly and bringing all systems back online ahead of schedule, with no interruption to the client’s operations. Integrated Systems Testing is one of those projects that gets pushed to the bottom of many business' task lists - not because it isn't important, but because delivering a Black Building Testing Project requires full operational shut down and is so difficult to get right in the tight time scales available. But our talented technical team ensures that Pareto delivers IST projects with minimal disruption and flawless execution, every time. Pareto delivers – on time, under pressure.
