Resistance to anthelmintics is a real problem in the UK. Far too often in the past SQP’s and some Vets have prescribed anthelmintics, with little or no knowledge of whether livestock have a parasite burden or not. Pasturetec invested in a Micron Agritech Faecal Egg Count test kit through Bimeda this year to enable our AMTRA Ltd qualified registered animal health advisors (formerly SQP’s) to provide faecal egg count results within 30 minutes, or less, either in farm or in store, after a business case was put forward by our Willington Store Manager and SQP, Stacey Foster. Since we commenced testing earlier this year, the number of low results have been significant, enabling our livestock customers to treat less and only when required, saving them money and protecting actives. Our customers are now more used to being asked whether they need to treat when requesting anthelmintics, applying a more technical rationale, backed by data through the faecal egg count test, which has to be the way forward. We also offer a livestock weighing service and encourage farms to invest in weighing equipment to monitor liveweight gain, helping to highlight whether livestock are on track, whilst highlighting any nutritional or parasite issue earlier as a management tool. We offer tests on farm, in store and via the post as well as providing technical support for weighing equipment of any brand. Using a targeted selective treatment approach to anthelmintic use and track livestock performance through data driven solutions has been received very positively across our customer base. #testbeforeyoutreat #protectingactives www.pasturetec.co.uk

Understanding soil health provides the foundations to make better management decisions to maximise opportunities for productivity. The spear takes a deeper soil sample than our standard grassland auger to enable improved analysis for organic matter as well as pH, P, K & Mg as a basic test for farmers and landowners. We were very pleased to support the 118th Annual Brailsford & District Ploughing Match this week. The traditional skills of ploughmen with all types of kit, plus the heavy horses, the hedgelaying section and a variety of other country crafts are important to keep passing down through the generations to celebrate the history of agriculture. After a wet week, the rain held off on the day and the committee put on a fabulous show, which is always very well supported by the trade, farming community and the public. Thank you to the Harris family from Alkmonton Dairy for hosting the event.

We are very proud to announce that our Derbyshire Store Manager, Stacey Foster has been short listed down to the final three in the National SQP Awards, Store Manager of The Year category. Stacey has made a hugely positive impact to our retail business since joining us one year ago. The animal health sales have grown significantly during that time, during which we’ve also introduced an in store Faecal Egg Count service, from Micron Agritech through Bimeda, supported by Telissa Latham, improving our service to farmers and other livestock customers to test prior to treatment to protect actives, whilst also focussing on livestock performance through data collection from regular weighing.
