Pathology News is excited to feature a groundbreaking study from Wesleyan University (USA) and Gachon University Gil Medical Center (Korea), where researchers have developed a deep learning framework to predict mismatch repair deficiency (MMR-D) directly from digitized pathology slides of endometrial cancer patients. MMR-D, a subtype affecting over 30% of endometrial cancer cases, is characterized by microsatellite instability, making it highly responsive to immunotherapy. The deep learning model trained on 1,168 WSIs demonstrated strong predictive accuracy, highlighting its potential to replace time-consuming molecular testing methods with faster diagnostic solutions that improve treatment timelines. While the findings are promising, researchers emphasize the need for further validation across external datasets to ensure clinical utility. This study marks a significant step toward integrating AI into pathology workflows, with implications for diagnosing other cancer subtypes and advancing precision oncology. Stay tuned as Pathology News continues to cover innovations shaping the future of the field, and read the full article now on Pathology News: https://lnkd.in/eqs69vaU #digitalpathology #pathologynews

This blog from 10x Genomics explores the transformative potential of single-cell sequencing (scRNA-seq) and multiomics in uncovering cellular heterogeneity. Unlike bulk RNA-seq these methods provide cell-specific insights, enabling the discovery of rare cell types, transient states, and intricate molecular mechanisms. They are reshaping research in fields like neurodevelopment, cancer, and immunology by offering high-resolution views of complex biological systems. Single-cell multiomics goes further by integrating transcriptomics with other data types, such as chromatin accessibility and protein expression, from the same cell. This holistic approach enhances accuracy, conserves resources, and reveals dynamic processes like immune responses or tumor heterogeneity with unprecedented clarity. Adopting single-cell sequencing involves familiar steps like sample preparation and RNA analysis but adds cell isolation and barcoding for individual resolution. By building on established workflows, this technology enables researchers to unlock deeper biological insights, driving innovations in diagnostics and treatments.
