In the 1st of our monthly posts looking at some of the museum's artefacts, we have one of our manager's favourite items - an ornate, broken pot re-used as a candle holder underground. Why is this her favourite? 'This is clearly not the kind of pottery the miners would own and yet it was found underground being used by them as a candle holder, complete with tallow dip. This tells of the different classes living within the villages with our miners quite probably finding the broken pot on the refuse tip of one of the wealthier households and rather cheekily taking it to light their workings. It is definitely not something you expect to find in use underground and that makes it rather special.' #MuseumArtefacts #MiningArtefacts #Mining #Museum #IndustrialHistory

Thank you to all the people who supported the museum whether it was as a visitor leaving a review, making a shop purchase or donation, and by completing our visitor surveys. As a volunteer helping to fix any problems and create new displays. Or, online sharing our posts and commenting on them to help raise our profile. And thank you to the museum staff who come up with so many wonderful ideas to make the visitor experience even better.
