  • Friday brought an exciting opportunity to combine Ella's role as Trustee in the Greater Manchester Education Trust with her day-job, helping organisations create cultures where people love to work, and 'customers' love to do business. Of course in this case 'customers' = staff, children, parents and the wider communities whose lives are touched by our Academies. CEO Damian Owen and Ella worked with a group of staff from across the Trust to 💡 Understand the unique context in which we operate 🌍 Explore the Vision we need to have maximum impact in this context 👏 The benefits this will bring for staff, children, parents and the wider community 🔥 How our Trust Values need to show up 'in real life' to deliver this Vision 🔍 How we deliberately design them into every aspect of our Trust 'system' to make sure they drive the way we work and make decisions day-to-day 🏆 What symbolic quick wins we can crack on with What a fabulous group of people to work with. The compassion, drive and ambition that teaching and support staff bring to their roles never ceases to inspire us - it's such a pleasure to partner with them. Our sessions were just one part of an outstanding day of inspiration and learning. From keynote speaker Sam Crome through to a whole host of teachers and support staff running learning sessions for their peers. Lovely to see familiar topics such as belonging, leadership, effective teamwork, psychological safety, spotting social cues, using intentional language....be applied in the #education sector. And delicious school dinner to boot! 😋 (They've come along way since the 70's 😆 ) #academytrust #schools #culture #leadership

  • 🚀 Redefining Teamwork for a Culture Fit for the Future 🚀 We recently unveiled our Culture Fit for the Future research, where we identified 9 key traits for building a successful organisational culture. One of the standout themes? The need to redefine teamwork. Gone are the days of traditional, hierarchical teams working in one place. Today’s landscape requires a new approach—what we call 360° collaboration. This approach acknowledges that: 🔄 We are all part of multiple teams at any given time. 🤝 Success relies not on hierarchy but on connectivity and strong relationships. 🎯 It demands new skills—understanding team purpose, leveraging diverse strengths, making agile decisions, and renegotiating priorities as contexts evolve. To thrive in the new world of work, redefining teamwork is essential. For more insights and practical recommendations to help your organisation build a culture fit for the future, download our full report here: subscribepage.io/FK9NVx #Culture #Teamwork #Leadership #FutureOfWork #Collaboration

Creating cultures where people love to work and customers love to do business #performance #culture #change #engagement

What an inspiring Friday at Dr. Sally Penni MBE's Women in the Law UK November conference hosted by DLA Piper (Alison Fagan). It was a privilege to share insights into #workplaceculture alongside so many fabulous speakers Rose Marley Clare McGregor Kirsty James Kirstie Penk Sue Douthwaite Bridget Tatham Joanne Conway BSc MSc Tom Lyas Tricia Peters Hannah Beko. Fundraising all went to support Lifeshare (thank you for insight into the work you do and the difference it makes Judith Vickers). The purpose of the event is empowerment and this year's topic was embracing change. Every session was packed with inspiration, insights and practical takeaways that will make a meaningful difference. A few that resonated with me in particular - 🔥 A reminder of how personal values are powerhouses that drive what we do and how we do it - community, civic duty and kindness are a few that came up through the day [if you don't know what yours are, there are lots of ways to work them out - DM me if you need some help 😊] 💡 The cooperative movement is worth £42.7bn in the UK - I had no idea how diverse and impactful the community is [and I say that as an ex-Coop employee 😲 ] 🗺️ "No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should" from the poem Desidrrata by Max Ehrmann [a helpful antidote to the tendancy to try and envison, plan and control everything] 👂 Coaching can make a difference everywhere including in prisons and with young people in schools 👏 There is some fabulous work happening in the legal sector to hardwire workplace values into their ways of working, for example the REACH mentoring programme at Brown Jacobson and the approach to diversity, inclusion and social mobility at DLA Piper 👭 Think 'human to human' when building relationships [instead of B2B or B2C] 🌄 "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together" [this African proverb came up twice] 🙌 Hard work is not enough, building effective relationships is essential to success And yes Emmeline Pankhurst behind me there - showing us the way... #legalcommunity #culture #leadership #change

  • Bowel movements and the American election   It’s fascinating how politics can permeate even the most personal and seemingly apolitical spaces. Earlier today I spoke with the owner of a children’s activity business, who noted that her customers (mostly mums) usually chat about things like nap times or nappy changes. But recently, for the first time, politics—specifically Trump’s election—has taken centre stage. A Trump for a trump, if you like!    Topics like his attitude toward women, reproductive rights, and the broader influence of leadership are now part of the conversation.   If we extrapolate to the bigger picture, what impact might Trump’s election have on workplace culture? Organisations will need to be clear and resilient about where they stand on issues of fairness, diversity and inclusion. How will organisations respond?      This article from Geraldine Gallacher provides interesting predictions for the US: https://bit.ly/3UYGlmA

  • Culture isn't about endurance — it's about evolving. As the end of the year approaches, we’re looking ahead at the culture trends for 2025, and it is clear that more than blunt endurance is required from organisations. The "5 Culture Trends for 2025" from O.C. Tanner provide an insight into how organisations can thrive by being more intentional about their cultures. To succeed, businesses need to have purpose-driven cultures that are connected and inclusive with meaningful leadership. It is these trends that will build loyalty, drive innovation, and sustain growth.   The trends include: ✔Human-Centered Leadership ✔Meaningful Recognition ✔Connection and Belonging ✔Inclusive Well-Being ✔Purpose-Driven Work You can read more about each of these trends here: https://lnkd.in/etbUGtd8   As Senn wisely says, "Culture is the enabler of all initiatives." It’s culture that brings purpose to every initiative and inspires true engagement. With the new year around the corner, ask yourself: Does your organisational culture need some work? 🌱

  • Do you have indicators of disengagement in your organisation? Admittedly, they may not be as glaringly obvious as depicted in this image, but our guess is that if you dig a little deeper you will uncover smaller, more subtle indicators that your employees are not engaged, or worse still, they are actively disengaged. This could manifest as a lack of participation in team activities, a decline in work quality, or an emerging “that’s not my job” attitude. In this article by Forbes, they highlight 11 tell-tale signs of disengagement https://bit.ly/4dwmQIS Are you equipped to address and tackle these signs? Many organisations rely on annual surveys to identify cultural issues leading to disengagement, but the reality is, unless we are enabling open communication where employee feel listened to, the likelihood is the survey alone will fall short. For advice or support in effectively engaging with your employees and implementing actionable strategies to boost engagement, please reach out to Andrew Loveless or Ella Overshott.
