Last week we hosted People Like Us at our London offices ✨ Bringing Penguin colleagues and guests together, the event celebrated talent at all levels from Black, Asian, Mixed Race and minority ethnic backgrounds. Such an inspiring evening 🧡
Wow, what an amazing event last night, truly showing the industry what People Like Us are really made of. From the idea of possibility… to talking about the power of unique perspectives… to thinking “yeah, why not?” and a splash of sparkle and unorthodoxy. The speakers gave us plenty of food for thought and inspiration. Thank you to Maleena Pone, Katherine Salmon, Maryam Shabbir, Jonathan Reid, Zaahida Nabagereka, Thuta Khin, Joey Li, Whitney Simon, Hannah Abban, Edwin Danso, Jasmine Botchey, and Carole Pyke MCIM. Thank you to all of our brilliant event partners for their support: Bilal Yasin (photos), Mike Buck (headshots), Joel Harvey (videography), Dan Green (Branding), Working Wonder Ltd and of course the entire team at Penguin Random House UK for their fab hosting. And of course, thank you to everyone who turned up to celebrate the amazing stories. What was your highlight from the event? #PeopleLikeUs #AboutLastNight

How do you go about reinventing already iconic book cover designs? 🎨📚 In 1961, Romek Marber was chosen to design new covers for our Crime collection. Last year, we decided to bring back our iconic green covers, with a modern twist on Marber's designs ✨ “Our aim was to create covers which are bold, graphic, and unmistakable. It’s important to note that these are modern classics, mostly from the 1930s, 40s, 50s, and 60s – they’re not brand-new 2023 crime fiction – so there’s a deliberate nod to the past, and in particular to Penguin’s rich design history and the illustrated covers designed by Romek Marber and others in the 1960s.” - Matt Young, prev Head of Design at Penguin Press.
