  • Today’s latest report from the Security Research Initiative highlights the untapped potential for police and private security to work together. Despite distinct roles, both professions share common goals: reducing crime, protecting people and property, and gathering valuable intelligence. 📥 Read the full announcement and download the report here > https://lnkd.in/gMhDtTDZ   The report explores 12 distinct types of collaborative working, as well as the benefits and barriers to working together. Further the report identifies 6 key opportunities to improve collaboration.   Professor Martin Gill who led the research noted:   ‘Our research indicates that security professionals saw significant value in collaborative working with the police, particularly to better protect the public as well as organisations. There were many examples of joint initiatives which were considered beneficial. However, it was also apparent that much potential was untapped; that there is a general lack of joint working and that partnerships often do not achieve their full potential because of common barriers. Further, security professionals consider themselves to be more enthusiastic about collaborative working than they perceive the police to be. The Policing Vision 2030 sets an objective to collaborate more to prevent crime, and this includes with businesses. What is needed now is strong leadership with a strategy to move collaboration forward. Indeed, since undertaking the research, I have been invited to chair a roundtable event in December with representatives from the police and private security to explore and set ambitions for a renewed approach to collaborative working. I look forward to seeing these discussions progress.’ Thank you to the SRI members who sponsored this research: Carlisle Support Services, CIS Security Limited, G4S, Interr, Marks and Spencer, Mitie, PwC, OCS, Royal Mail, Securitas UK, Security Industry Authority, & Sodexo. 📥 Read the full announcement and download the report here > https://lnkd.in/gMhDtTDZ   The Security Research Initiative is supported by leading security associations - ADS Group Ltd, ASIS International - UK, British Security Industry Association (BSIA), IFPO UK (International Foundation for Protection Officers), International Professional Security Association (IPSA), The Security Institute and The SASIG Events. • 🎙 The fifteenth episode of "Security Thought Leadership: in conversation with Martin Gill" is now LIVE! 🚀 Join us for an interesting discussion with Terry, this podcast provides a chilling insight into the world of crime! 🔗 Listen to the episode now or find links to your preferred platforms here > https://lnkd.in/gC_GPK9Z Terry didn't think there was anything inevitable in his early childhood that would lead to him becoming a persistent priority offender in his mid teens. Led by older boys and attracted by the high rewards of fraud, theft and commercial burglary he saw little value in legitimate pursuits and never felt the counsellors appointed to help him were realistic. Eventually he ended up in prison and there developed a drug habit. That governed the next stage of his life, on his release his crimes were driven by the need to pay for drugs. Shoplifting was more lucrative than many alternatives and carried less risks, and drug dealing provided him with access to what he most valued. Nine more prison sentences followed, and then, when he decided enough was enough, drug barons took exception and he suffered multiple stab wounds. He decided to help the police, joined witness protection and started a new life. Listen to how Terry ended up, the hard way, as a head chef. At the end of the interview terry answers these three questions we ask all our guests: 1. Which book has most influenced you? 2. Which person has most influenced you? 3. What is the priority issue works of crime prevention needs to focus on to change for the better? #SecurityThoughtLeadership #securityinconversation
