🎉 On December 3rd, 2024, we brought together over 60 members and partners from nearly 50 organizations at Barclays Business Banking for our Perseus AGM. The event was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate progress, reflect on key learnings, and set our sights on an ambitious plan for 2025. Through engaging networking sessions, thought-provoking talks, and insightful panel discussions, our members shared their experiences from the past year of Perseus membership. These conversations highlighted how our community is shaping the direction and impact of the project, driving meaningful outcomes for all involved. It was incredibly valuable to connect face-to-face, sparking organic interactions and a shared sense of pride in what we’ve achieved together. Seeing the collective progress of the Perseus community in one room was both inspiring and motivating. Our our first panel, Zarina Banu (Tide), Tracie Callaghan (NatWest), and Saad Malik (Lloyds Banking Group) gave the banks' perspective on the question 'How do we scale up green lending for SMEs?'. The second panel shared insights into the progress of developing the Perseus pilot, enabling SME smart meter data to be shared automatically with a bank for the first time. The panellists were Chris Pointon (Icebreaker One), George Sandilands (Sage), Vikesh Sachdeva (Perse), and Matthew Kelly (Development Bank of Wales). Here are some key takeaways from the day: 💡 In-person gatherings strengthen our community, inspire new ideas, and build momentum. Based on the positive feedback, we’re planning more of these for 2025—stay tuned! 🤝 Perseus acts as a neutral forum to address shared challenges in a pre-competitive way, enabling collaboration that benefits the entire sector. 🚀 Many members are eager to accelerate progress by engaging more deeply, sharing challenges, and working collectively to overcome them. A huge thank you to Barclays, our newest Perseus member, for hosting us so seamlessly and helping to make the day a success. Here’s to another year of driving change together! #Collaboration #Innovation #Community #Perseus #SMEFinance #GreenFinance #Partnership #NetZero

  • Perse completes Google Accelerator: Climate Change! We recently connected with Google resources to accelerate our mission to optimise the financial and carbon position of any asset connected to the grid Today, we completed the Google for Startups Accelerator in Europe: Climate Change. Over the course of the 10 week program Vikesh Sachdeva, Jane Lucy and some of the Perse wider team, participated in tailored activities designed to harness the full power of Google's resources through in-person and virtual activities, personalized 1:1 mentoring sessions, and collaborative group learning experiences designed to empower high-potential startups that are leveraging technology to combat climate change. As a result of the program Perse will be looking to launch a new product feature to provide personalised recommendations for solar PV installations in any space - not just rooftops, but farmland, car parks, anywhere! The Accelerator program is part of Google’s broader commitment to help individuals, cities, and partners to collectively reduce 1 gigaton of their carbon equivalent emissions annually by 2030, and the company’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions across Google-wide operations and value chains by 2030. “We believe that Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands at the forefront of climate action, offering unprecedented potential to tackle some of the most pressing environmental challenges,” said Adam Elman, Google’s EMEA Head of Sustainability “ We’ve been so inspired by how the startups in this cohort are creatively leveraging technology and bringing their wealth of perspectives and approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation. We’ll be closely following their amazing work moving forward and continuing to support them as best we can.” Google for Startups ran the Accelerator in partnership with the Google Cloud and Google Sustainability teams. Activities focused on deep dives into crucial areas such as product design, business growth strategies, and leadership development, providing startups with the tools they need to effectively scale their climate solutions. Perse also received dedicated Google Cloud technical expertise and credits via the Google for Startups Cloud Program. £100 million in lost savings: how an energy market glitch is hurting consumers Perse Technology, the leading energy data provider to the likes of NatWest Group and Compare the Market, has discovered a new flaw in the energy market that is preventing around over 1 million of Britain’s households from switching energy provider, costing them on average £105 each per year. The UK is in the middle of bringing new industry changes to how energy is reconciled against what has been bought and consumed. Whilst these are around 18 months away from being live for everyone, 1 million households have been signed up early to take part in a testing phase. What these households are unlikely to have known and consented to is that this is now preventing them from switching to a cheaper rate. This has been discovered by Perse, which powers Compare the Market, at an alarming rate. The issue has been created by industry data flows changing these customers’ meter profile class to be equivalent to a commercial and industrial meter (which is  already settled on the new basis), losing their domestic status. This has resulted in the billing and CRM systems of energy suppliers rejecting these customers when they attempt to switch, as being ineligible for a domestic energy tariff. The only solution that appears open to affected households is to convince their current supplier to change their profile class back to domestic. It is estimated that this process could take weeks - longer than the time period when several of the cheapest energy tariffs have been live on Price Comparison Websites. The missed savings potential currently stands at over £100 million. Jane Lucy, CEO of Perse Technology said: “This is yet another example of the energy market creating unintended adverse consequences that block competition where, once again, it is the consumer who loses. Thankfully, independent data focused companies such as Perse, can bring to light such issues. We urge energy suppliers and if necessary, Ofgem, to prioritise solving this. It’s been years since many households could save by switching. When finally, cheaper tariffs are starting to return, everyone deserves to benefit.” Octopus Energy OVO British Gas E.ON UK EDF (UK) ScottishPower Ofgem Elexon Kathryn Porter Matt Roderick Ian Barker Katie Watts Thanks to ElectraLink Ltd. for the graph below
