Our amazing Parking and Civil Contingencies team does so much more than just issue parking fines! This week, they lent a helping hand to the Perth Community Flood Aid by filling up sandbag stations, minimising the risk of flooding for local residents. Plus, they’ve spread some festive cheer by donating chocolate and biscuits to Perth & Kinross Foodbank. Merry Christmas to Stewart Skene and all your team. 🧑🎄

  • Now this is how you do collaboration! Exciting news dropping tonight if you are a St Johnstone FC fan and/or a big supporter of St Johnstone Fans Supporting Foodbanks (which we obviously are) 🤩🤩 The secret is now officially out in the open, and we have the best Christmas present suggestion for all our Perth & Kinross Foodbank followers. Glencarse based fashion brand Little Lies, made world famous earlier this year when Taylor Swift was snapped wearing one of their gorgeous designs, have worked in tandem with St. Johnstone Football Club to design their third kit which launched within the past hour. Perth natives Jade Robertson and Stuart Robertson and their team have designed the kit following discussions with St. Johnstone Football Club owner Adam Webb. Forever proud of their role in the local #community, St. Johnstone Football Club have taken those values, and added them to the third strip for fans to wear far and wide. Featured on the top are three local charities - Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance - SCAA, Saints in the Community and I'm delighted to say St Johnstone Fans Supporting Foodbanks, who are instrumental in supporting us here at Perth & Kinross Foodbank St. Johnstone Football Club CEO Fran Smith shared; “We are delighted to be teaming up with Little Lies to launch our new third kit. “We are continuing to drive our One Club, One City, One Community message and joining forces with this successful local business is important to us. “We want to support local and, as always, support good causes. That is exactly what we are doing with this kit and we hope it can be shared as far and as wide as possible. “The more we manage to sell, the more we can help the charities involved so a massive thank you to everyone who purchases the kit.” Amazing! A fantastic partnership to celebrate! 🥳🥳 Very excited to see the St Johnstone Fans Supporting Foodbanks group recognised in this way. Well done guys, superstars, the lot of you 🌟🌟 Get your hands on one here whilst they last- https://lnkd.in/eBYHCREd Press release available here 👇👇https://lnkd.in/ep9QsyGt

🗣️ "A choice between heating and eating isn't really a choice at all."    Latest stats from Trussell show that over 1.4 million emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in the Trussell community in just 6 months.    People turn to food banks because our social security system is falling short. And every day millions have to make heartbreaking decisions. But it doesn't have to be this way. A future where everyone can afford the essentials is possible. The UK Government must make sure Universal Credit covers the cost of the essentials like food, heating and toiletries. 📰 Together we can end hunger and hardship.

    • A person holding up a The Hardship Times newspaper in the sky. The front page says: 'Together we can end hunger and hardship: Hundreds of food banks call on the UK government to take urgent action'. There are stories and quotes behind the headline from people. On the back page it says: 'everyone should be able to afford the essentials: over 100 organisations agree.' It's time to guarantee our essentials.
  • So now for the Perth & Kinross Foodbank specific data . . . . Between April 1st to 30th of September we have; 🛍 Distributed 1,998 3*day emergency food parcels to individuals, couples and families across Perth and Kinross. 🙋 Fed 3,708 people, including... 👶 1,074 children. These figures are broadly comparable with data from 2023, keeping in mind that we had a week long closure, and the relocation project too 🚛 It's likely that without those, 2024 would have been even busier! 🥫 Distributed 32,744kg of food to those in crisis 🛍 Donations in our supermarket collection points are 7,000kg down⬇️ compared to the same period 3 years ago. Everyone is feeling the pinch. 🗺 Every Perth and Kinross Council ward is represented in our statistics. No area is immune. 🏠 977 unique households were served, 445 of which were first time referrals. 💷Rising cost of essentials and unexpected expenses are the primary reason people come to the foodbank. With finite incomes, people's finances can only be stretched so far, unable to absorb any further pressures. At Perth & Kinross Foodbank we acknowledge we are not the solution to poverty and hardship, but we are a lifeline for many people our there. To those in local communities who wake up stressed and worried about money, and those who go to bed with money on their minds, we are here for you 🫶 It takes so much bravery and courage to cross over the threshold of a foodbank and seek help - to the single parents, carers, families, grandparents and those on their own, we salute you. We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with local people during their darkest days. Circumstances can change so quickly, you never know when it might be you, or someone you love and care about who needs a helping hand 🤝 I hope our followers will continue to stand by us for the next 6 months as we take on our some of our biggest challenges to date - to source 20,000kg of stock and £16,000 to meet forecasted levels of need. You can count on us to be here through thick and thin, good times and bad, we hope we can count on you to support us too.

  • Morning everyone! Today Trussell launches their mid-year stats, a picture of #foodbank usage across the UK for the period between the 1st of April to the 30th of September. I'll start us off with an overview of the UK facts and figures, following up with Scotland wide, and then finally our data for Perth and Kinross more specifically 🇬🇧 It's important to note, from a UK perspective, that Trussell's 1,611 distribution sites, are only part of the charitable food aid picture. There are independent foodbanks, larders and #community fridges to consider too. The Trussell community distributed 1.4millon emergency food parcels during this 6 month period, meaning the level of need seen across the network is broadly similar to record levels, down slightly. Shocking statistic - more parcels have been distributed in the first six months of 24/25 than the entirety of the 17/18 financial year 😲 For the second year in a row, over half a million parcels were distributed to children. Why is this happening? In part due to a weakened social security system, a porous safety net that is failing to protect people from hardship, and in turn, forcing them to turn to foodbanks like ours. The cost of living continues to hit people in their pockets and everyone is feeling the pinch. Foodbanks across the UK are struggling to keep up with this level of need and absorb the pressures that come with limited resources and finite capacity. Undeniably, we are a lifeline to many, and we will continue to serve the communities we are rooted in, but foodbanks are not the answer. It's not a food problem, it's an income problem. We need urgent action on hunger in the UK. Look out for Scotland and local stats soon.
