Peterhead is one of the UK’s most versatile ports, providing exceptional all-weather, congestion-free deepwater berthing facilities at depths of up to 14 metres and serving a broad range of industries including oil & gas, renewables, fishing and leisure. The port is well positioned to support the transition to net zero and is a partner in the Scottish Cluster that will be developing the carbon capture and storage project at St Fergus.

Harbour Master and Director of Port Operations Ewan Rattray MNM presented the Deckhand of the Year Award yesterday to Jack Gauld, who is now working on board the Fraserburgh-registered fishing boat Karen Ann. PPA has sponsored the Deckhand course, the launching stage for a career at sea, at the Scottish Maritime Academy since 2013.

On the day after the UK Government budget on 30th October, the Permanent Secretary for Scotland John Paul Marks and Michelle Quinn, Director of Offshore Wind at the The Scottish Government, visited Peterhead Port Authority for a roundtable discussion with companies working in and around the Peterhead area. As part of a wider North East Scotland visit, John Paul and Michelle heard from senior representatives from Peterhead Port Authority, the The Acorn Project, SSE Thermal, SSEN Transmission , ASCO, Score Group, the Peterhead Developers Forum and Fraserburgh Harbour. The open discussion, organised and chaired by Aberdeenshire Council, covered a range of key energy sectors, including ports and logistics, carbon capture and storage, offshore wind, energy transmission, local collaboration and skills. In addition to hearing about the fantastic energy opportunities for the Peterhead and wider area, John Paul and Michelle also learned first hand some of the funding, skills, regulatory and investment challenges faced by the representative companies both individually and collectively.
