As National Apprenticeship Week draws to a close, we're reflecting on the importance of a diversity of career entry pathways for people entering the workplace. We're proud to be partners with University of Hertfordshire in providing Degree Apprenticeships for aspiring civil and structural engineers. Our very own Freddy Nechelput took part in a panel event at the uni this week, aimed at "Cutting through the complexities of degree apprenticeships". Apprenticeships are great because they allow access to higher education qualifications for those who - for a whole range of possible reasons - a traditional degree course might not suit. The work-while-you-learn approach really helps embed engineering skills and knowledge. Last week, we were really excited to host 19 students from the Norwich area at a dedicated STEAM Careers event at our regional office. The attendees took part in the hypothetical design of a gatehouse - taking part in several practical activities while learning about structures, traffic planning, drainage, and other aspects. We also talked about the variety and value of routes into a career in engineering - from 16+ and degree apprenticeships, to traditional university qualification. We're recruiting apprentice technicians now for a September 2025 start - so please do get in touch if you're interested! --- Did you know: The STEAM acronym stands for "Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics". Harvey Brennan from our Norwich office has been shortlisted for the Young Person of the Year Award at EEEGR’s annual End of Year Awards. As a Structural Technician at Pinnacle, Harvey shows exceptional skills in delivering projects, supporting his team, and continually advancing his development. He achieved top marks in his apprenticeship studies and is now studying for further qualifications, working towards a career in engineering.
