With world leaders turning their attention to the climate once again at this year’s COP29 summit, we are also spending time evaluating our own efforts to be sustainable and limit our impact on the environment. We have recently introduced a Green Noticeboard to keep staff informed about our environmental policies, to share our work with Ecologi - a social enterprise that helps people and businesses take climate action - and to advertise ways in which each staff member can take individual action to be more sustainable. One of the environmental schemes which staff can read about on our Green Noticeboard is Climate Perks. As an employer committed to having a positive social and environmental impact, we are proud to say that we will give paid travel time to employees who elect to travel via land or sea rather than via air as part of the Climate Perks scheme. Flying is the fastest growing contributor to climate change globally. On current trends, aviation alone will account for 40% of UK carbon emissions by 2050. As such, we actively encourage our employees to think twice before booking flights. #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ClimateSolutions #COP29 #ForOurPlanet

Here at Plimsoll Productions we have spent this October honouring and celebrating Black History Month. This Year’s theme has been ‘Reclaiming Narratives’. In the powerful words of Cherron Inko-Tariah MBE, this theme is about "[shining] a brighter light on our stories, allegories and history" during this month of contemplation, reflection and celebration. In honour of this, we held a screening of our BBC documentary Oti Mabuse: My South Africa in the office. This documentary follows dancing star Oti Mabuse as she returns to her childhood home to revisit the people and places that inspired her to be the dancer and woman she is today. The journey continues as Oti traverses the country's breathtaking landscape, discovering unfamiliar places, new inspiration, and the women who are building South Africa's future. We also had delicious Vegan food from local culinary legends 'Fi Real' for our Free Food Friday.

Another year, another brilliant (and busy) Wildscreen! We are elated to have taken home the Wildscreen ARK Children's Award for our City episode of A Real Bug’s Life. If you haven't watched it before, you can stream it now on Disney+. And in case you missed it, a couple of our very own Executive Producers, James Smith (Head of Adventure) & Martha Holmes (Chief Creative Officer), chaired talks on Monday at the festival. James Smith hosted an inspiring international panel about the solutions needed to create equal access to our industry’s content. In attendance was Nat Geo Senior VP, Janet Han Vissering, Zambian Fixer Duncan Scott, and Brazilian Producer João Paulo Krajewski. Martha Holmes hosted the Masterclass ‘Sizzling Pitch Decks’ with speakers Nick Mirsky, MD of Five Mile Films, and Jayne Edwards, Humblebee’s Head of Development. The trio discussed how to sell your great ideas. Thank you to all those who came, thank you to all those who have worked on our shows, and thank you to Wildscreen 2024!
