PLP Architecture
Architecture and Planning
A global architecture and urban design studio focused on research, sustainability, and innovation practices
About us
PLP Architecture is a London-based group of architects, designers and thinkers who value the transformative role of ideas and the capacity for architecture to inspire. Although we draw from a rich history and experience of working together on projects around the world, we have a culture of a young start-up. We value innovation and creativity as we strive to test limits. We produce intelligent, exciting and groundbreaking designs through a continual commitment to social, economic and environmental ideals. The office shuns preconceptions, fixed architectural styles or methods, allowing each project to become a unique opportunity to research, analyze and creatively respond to the brief, site and context. The foundation of our work lies in a commitment to the quality of life in the city, a delight in the handling of material, space and light and an optimism about architecture’s potential to enrich our society. We have a global presence, with permanent studios in London, Tokyo and Singapore. PLP Architecture is also supported by our research and innovation group, PLP Labs. ♻️ On-site circularity - now tracked! ♻️ Our sustainability efforts at our Holborn Viaduct site are now being fully documented using the UPCYCLEA software in collaboration with Maconda and Multiplex. This guarantees that upon project completion, the client receives comprehensive data on carbon impact, material health, and residual financial value, simplifying future adaptations to the design. Read more about our work at Holborn Viaduct here: https://lnkd.in/dudUge_S
Today I'm excited to announce a new project with Multiplex! Building on our successful partnership, Maconda is supporting the delivery of material passports on the £200M Holborn Viaduct scheme by Royal London Asset Management . It’s great to be working with the Multiplex team again after our pioneering material passport pilot on the One Nine Elms scheme – the UK’s first! Designed by PLP Architecture, Holborn Viaduct uses passports as part of the long-term adaptability and disassembly strategy of a layered design and installation approach to building components. The passport information allows easier adaptation and replacement of individual elements in response to future climate and occupational requirements. Using UPCYCLEA software, we capture detailed data on carbon, circularity, material health and residual financial value to provide the client with a comprehensive picture of the asset on completion. Recently, PLP’s Lee Polisano was a keynote speaker at UIA - International Union of Architects’s International Forum in Kuala Lumpur. This year’s theme, ‘Diversecity,’ merged the concepts of diversity and city, reflecting the complex and multifaceted nature of urban life. Chiefly centered around Kuala Lumpur—a vibrant and multicultural Asian metropolis, Lee explored ‘Cultural Identity’ as a central theme in architectural discourse. This is especially poignant in today’s context, as architecture and urban spaces grapple with ongoing environmental, climate, social, and economic challenges. #UIA2024KL #Diversecity #UIA

“We talked about some great ideas for our industry’s focus in the immediate future. The use of waste and nature-based materials for construction is one area – and we are super excited about the prospect of combining bio-based with biophilia.” At our Scaling Circularity event, Founding Partner Ron Bakker shared his insights into our ongoing efforts around 'Developing Circular Materials'.
